I can’t believe we’re already partway through this half term here at Creative Crew - Art workshops. Our Home Ed groups have explored some exciting projects, tried new techniques and created such beautiful, individual artwork. I love seeing how differently each young artist responds to the same starting point.

Our 11–16 Home Ed group are making progress on their mixed media projects!
This week, we explored hand embroidery techniques with a twist: stitching into paper and card. The young artists practised making marks with thread and discovered how stitches can add colour, line and texture to a surface.
As their projects develop, they can choose whether to bring these techniques into their drawings, paintings or textured backgrounds.

Our Bronze Arts Award group continued researching their chosen arts heroes this week!
The young artists created timelines of important moments in their artists’ lives and careers, then looked more closely at their creative practice: what they make, the materials and techniques they use, and how they work.
We also explored the ideas behind the artwork. What matters to each artist? What themes keep appearing? And what might they want viewers to think or feel?
It’s lovely to see the group looking beyond the finished artwork and getting curious about the people and ideas behind it.

We had to get our engineering brains into gear for this project! ⚙️
Inspired by the artist Alexander Calder, our young artists created their own kinetic mobiles using card and wire. They carefully considered shape, balance and weight, making adjustments along the way to ensure their sculptures hung successfully.
These were incredibly difficult to photograph because they were constantly moving—which is exactly what kinetic art is meant to do! I promise they looked fantastic, and everyone worked incredibly hard to bring their balancing creations to life.
