Glebe House School

Glebe House School North West Norfolk's leading co-educational independent Nursery & Prep school. Celebrating 150 Years!

In many ways, what makes us special is precisely what makes us different from other schools. We are small which means each child is known and nurtured individually – but always inclusively – in every aspect of school life. We are located close to North Norfolk’s coastline and so getting outside, enjoying nature and learning about the environment is part of our children’s learning. We may have been

here since 1874, but our focus is on combining the best of contemporary education with traditional values.

A year of Glebe House memories, on its way… 📖💙

We hope all our Glebe families and staff are enjoying a wonderful summer break. As thoughts slowly begin to turn towards the new school year, there’s a little something arriving through the post to help us look back before we look forward…

The Aquilian 2025–26 is on its way!

Our annual yearbook is always eagerly anticipated, a chance to revisit a whole school year through photographs, stories and memories. From Nursery through to Division VIII, its pages capture so much of what makes a year at Glebe: everyday learning and friendships alongside performances, sport, trips, celebrations, Forest School, music, science and countless moments in between.

We hope families will enjoy sitting down together, turning the pages and remembering some very happy days, and that, in years to come, this year’s Aquilian will still be pulled from the bookshelf and treasured as a record of a very special chapter in our pupils’ childhoods.

Keep an eye on the post…! 📮📖

Come and see Glebe House as it really is.

Our first Open Morning of the new school year is an opportunity to experience an ordinary working morning at Glebe House, because we think seeing our school in action is one of the best ways to understand what makes it special.

Join us for coffee and pastries, meet our Head and members of the Glebe House community, and then let one of our senior pupils show you around. You'll see lessons taking place, meet children and staff and have plenty of opportunity to ask questions along the way.

Whether you're considering Reception for September 2027, looking ahead to Year 3 or Year 7, or exploring a place in another year group, we'd love to welcome you.

🏖️ When the beach becomes your classroom...

With summer in full swing and many of us making the most of days by the sea, we thought it was the perfect time to celebrate something rather special about life at Glebe House.

Beautiful Old Hunstanton beach is quite literally at the end of our road, and throughout the school year, we make the most of having this extraordinary natural environment on our doorstep.

For our youngest pupils, that might mean pulling on wellies and heading down for a morning of exploring, collecting, building and discovering. As children move through the school, the beach continues to play its part: inspiring literacy, supporting science and environmental studies, providing space for team challenges and outdoor learning, and becoming part of some very special experiences during our Division VIII Leavers’ programme.

Different ages. Different seasons. Different reasons for being there.

What remains the same is the opportunity to take learning beyond four walls, to experience the natural world first-hand and to make the most of everything our wonderful Norfolk coastal location has to offer.

These photographs capture just a handful of our beach days from across the past school year, sunshine, sea breezes, sandy feet and plenty of very happy memories along the way. ☀️🌊

And while we're enjoying the summer holidays now, it won't be too long before we're heading down that familiar road again...

🎭 Bringing the Stage to Life with Porridge

There is something truly special about watching children step onto a stage and surprise themselves with what they are capable of.

Our Junior Prep pupils (Years 3-5) spent months preparing this year's production of Porridge, learning lines, rehearsing songs, perfecting choreography and working together to create a performance that had audiences laughing from beginning to end.

Every child played an important part. Whether delivering a memorable one-liner, leading a musical number or supporting the action behind the scenes, every contribution helped bring the production to life.

Performed in our newly refurbished school hall, Porridge showcased not only some wonderful acting and comic timing, but also the dedication, teamwork and enthusiasm that developed throughout the rehearsal process. It was a joy to see pupils grow into their roles, encourage one another and take genuine pride in everything they achieved together.

A huge thank you to Mrs Bygraves, Mrs Hubbard and Mrs Haslam for inspiring and guiding the children through another outstanding Junior Prep production, and congratulations to every member of the cast for delivering such an entertaining performance.

These are the experiences that stay with children long after the final curtain falls.

🌍 Celebrating European Languages Day at Glebe House School

One of the most colourful and eagerly anticipated days in the Glebe calendar, European Languages Day is a wonderful celebration of languages, cultures and the wider world.

From Reception through to Year 8, pupils arrived dressed to represent a European country, whether through traditional costume, the colours of a national flag or imaginative outfits inspired by famous landmarks, history and culture. The creativity on display was fantastic, and the excitement was infectious from the moment the day began.

Organised by our Head of Modern Foreign Languages, Mr Whitehill, the day was filled with memorable experiences. Pupils learnt basic Italian and Spanish, explored the work of famous European artists, enjoyed delicious continental treats, tried their hand at boules and were thoroughly entertained by Shipwrecked in France, an interactive touring theatre performance that brought language learning to life. We were also delighted to welcome our Nursery 3-4 children, whose enthusiasm and smiles lit up the performance.

Learning French from Reception is just one part of how we help children develop an understanding of the world beyond the classroom. We want every child to leave each experience with a broader understanding of the world around them, the confidence to embrace new experiences and an appreciation of the people, cultures and traditions that make every country unique.

As many families spend time exploring new places over the summer, it feels like the perfect moment to celebrate the value of looking beyond our own doorstep and discovering the richness of other languages, traditions and cultures.

One of the brightest afternoons of the school year. ☀️🎶💃

Every summer, the Glebe House School community comes together for one of our favourite traditions: the Summer Spectacular.

With families gathered in the marquee, pupils from across the school take to the stage to celebrate a year of music, dance and performance. From our youngest Pre-Prep children to our oldest Senior Prep pupils, every child has the opportunity to shine, whether through dance, singing, instrumental performances or our much-loved whole school songs.

The Summer Spectacular is far more than a performance. It is a celebration of confidence, creativity and community. It showcases months of commitment from pupils and staff alike, while giving everyone the chance to applaud one another's achievements and enjoy the incredible sense of togetherness that makes Glebe House so special.

The smiles, applause and laughter said it all. As the whole school came together to sing I'm a Believer to close the afternoon, it was the perfect way to celebrate another unforgettable year.

Thank you to all our pupils, staff and families for making this such a joyful occasion.

A Wonderful Celebration to End Another School Year ☀️

There is something very special about Speech Day at Glebe House School.

From our traditional Leavers' and Older Aquilians' Service at St Mary's Church, Old Hunstanton, to our Prize Giving ceremony back at school, it is a day that brings together pupils, families, staff, governors and friends to celebrate another remarkable year.

This year's sunshine provided the perfect backdrop as we reflected on everything our children have achieved, recognised their hard work and celebrated the many successes of the year.

As always, the day held particular significance for our wonderful Division VIII leavers. Some have been part of the Glebe House family since their nursery days, and it has been a privilege to watch them grow into confident, kind and capable young people. We wish each of them every success and happiness as they begin their next adventure.

As one chapter closes, another begins, with our new Division VIII pupils stepping into their final year and continuing the traditions that make this occasion so special.

It was a fitting and uplifting way to conclude another busy and memorable academic year.

Over the summer we'll be looking back at some of the wonderful moments from the final half term, but for now, we hope everyone is enjoying a well-deserved summer break.

🏆 House Spirit Shines at Prep Sports Day ☀️

Last Friday afternoon, our Prep pupils embraced the summer heat for a fantastic Inter House Sports Day, giving their all in support of Saints, Barbers and L'Estrange.

Across the Junior, Intermediate and Senior competitions, pupils demonstrated determination, resilience and outstanding teamwork as they competed in sprint races, relays, long-distance events, throwing, long jump and an eagerly anticipated tug of war finale.

With so many parents, families and friends cheering from the sidelines, the atmosphere was full of encouragement and House spirit from start to finish.

Congratulations to L'Estrange, who claimed this year's Inter House Sports Day trophy, and well done to every pupil who represented their House with such enthusiasm, commitment and sportsmanship.

A morning of determination, teamwork and smiles at Pre-Prep Sports Day! ☀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Last Friday morning, our youngest pupils took to the field for an energetic and exciting Pre-Prep Sports Day, cheered on by a fantastic crowd of family and friends.

From sprints and sack races to egg and spoon, beanbag and throwing events, every child gave their very best for their House. The House Relay brought together children from Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, demonstrating wonderful teamwork as they raced side by side for Saints, Barbers and L'Estrange.

Throughout the morning, the encouragement from both the children and the spectators was wonderful to hear. Whether racing, cheering from the sidelines or celebrating each other's successes, the atmosphere reflected exactly what sport at Glebe House is all about, taking on challenges with enthusiasm, resilience and kindness.

Congratulations to L'Estrange, who claimed this year's Pre-Prep Sports Day trophy! 🏆

Most importantly, well done to every child for embracing the morning with such positivity, determination and huge smiles. We are incredibly proud of you all.
