Procrastination and Distracting Squirrels... 🐿️

🧠✅ Five years. Done in ~ five days.

If you're Neuro-Spicy, you'll know exactly what I mean when I say a task can sit on your list not because you can't do it — but because the sheer scale of it makes starting feel impossible.

For me, that task was our policy suite.

16 documents. Outdated legislation. Duplicated content. Inconsistent language. Cross-references pointing to the wrong policies. It was a gargantuan, overwhelming, where-do-I-even-start mountain.

So I didn't start. For five years. 🤦‍♂️

Then January came, and I decided enough was enough, my hand was forced, I absolutely HAD to get it done.

Pretty much ALL of my off-delivery days have been focused on this. I think that equates to about five solid days of focused admin time (time without the squirrels), working through every document — sense-checking, condensing, correcting, and clarifying — with the support of Claude AI keeping me on track, catching what my brain missed, and turning what felt impossible into something genuinely manageable.

The result?
📄 - 18 documents → 12
✅ - Legislation updated to 2025 standards
✅ - Consistent voice and tone throughout
✅ - Every cross-reference checked and corrected
✅ - Plain-English summary boxes added to every policy
✅ - A policy suite I'm genuinely proud to put in front of clients, trainers, and Awarding Organisations.
✅ - A new home for these policies on our website: www.DPTrainingUK.com/policies

If you're a small business owner with a Neuro-Spicy brain and a task that's been quietly haunting your to-do list — I see you. Break it down. Get support. And start.

The relief on the other side is very worth it. 🙌

- Video is not actually of me, but an AI Video creation, I know it's a surprise!
- Man with paperwork mountain, again AI created, not one of my distraction doodles!
- My desk once all was said & done
- The reality of my mid-flow desk!

Occupational Water Safety Training
Prioritising water safety is crucial, whether you’re managing a school, a gym, or a company. The Aquatic Safety Qualification from Atlantic Crest provides comprehensive training that can save lives. This course is designed to equip your team with the essential skills to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies, ensuring a safer environment for everyone.
What is the Aquatic Safety Qualification?
This qualification covers everything from risk assessment and emergency action plans to rescue techniques and first aid assessments. Water Safety is not just for lifeguards; it’s for anyone responsible for the well-being of others around water.

Why Invest in Water Safety Training?
* Protect Your People: The most important reason is to safeguard the lives of your staff, students, or employees. Proper training minimizes the risk of accidents and ensures a swift, effective response if an incident occurs.
* Meet Your Duty of Care: As an organization, you have a legal and ethical responsibility to provide a safe environment. The Aquatic Safety Qualification helps you meet these obligations and demonstrates your commitment to safety.
* Boost Confidence and Preparedness: Knowing that your team is trained and ready to handle an emergency instills confidence. This peace of mind is invaluable for both management and participants.
Make the commitment to water safety. Equip your team with the knowledge and skills they need to create a secure working environment. Visit our website to learn more about the Aquatic Safety Qualification and register your team today.

Please have a check of your First Aid Kits.
---
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) are advising the public to stop using certain non-sterile alcohol-free wipes and to dispose of them.

During investigation of an outbreak, certain wipes were found to be contaminated with Burkholderia stabilis.

The following products have been found to be affected:
- ValueAid Alcohol Free Cleansing Wipes
- Microsafe Moist Wipe Alcohol Free
- Steroplast Sterowipe Alcohol Free Cleansing Wipes
---
UKHSA advice on appropriate use of ‘skin cleansing’ wipes:
- Only use wipes marked as ‘sterile’ on broken skin such as wounds, scratches, or where you can see blood - it is important to use only sterile wipes on broken skin as this reduces the chances of germs getting into the body and causing infections
- Please ensure your first aid kit only contains wipes marked as ‘sterile’, the packaging around wipes marked as ‘sterile’ is not damaged and that products are in date - dispose of any wipes with damaged packaging or past their expiry date

Due to risk of infection, non-sterile alcohol-free wipes are not appropriate for the treatment of injuries, wounds or on broken skin, nor for cleaning of intravenous lines.

Thank You - A reflective email received from a client following a course in May 2025

Hi Matt,

Just a few reflective bits.

Your course delivery is so accomplished! You held space for everyone in the group in all their unique ways... this is an incredible skill.

It's now sunk in, how you rolled the course, how you said you would be assessing on day one, and day two was for 'play and attitude learning'. I LOVE THAT!!

At the time, especially day two, the edges of real and roleplay blurred a bit as my fight or flight got jittery.
However, now I've had time to reflect on your words. I really get the way you were teaching and guiding us... and cannot wait to attend again!

I've never been invited to 'play' for the roleplay incidents, and it has changed something fundamental...it's turned down the residual stuff left from various folks in my life dying either in my arms or through long term illness.

Your teaching style has given me huge dollops of confidence. You may not have seen or heard that, so I wanted to let you know!

If it's OK with you, I'll likely refresh every two years, just to keep everything shiny.

Hope it's OK to express how glad I am that you have found your language and style. Your way of moving through the world in your work is full of generosity, heart and humour. Those ripples you spoke about...you send them wide!

Happy days to you,

and THANK YOU! again for the play invite...it's literally life changing!

Kind wishes,

[Name]. ###

Ha Ha!
Thank you for all the love & positive comments about my last video "A Social Introduction".
This is the long awaited second episode...
Yes, I filmed them all on the same day & no I didn't realise there was an oil stain on that shirt!.. I delayed posting this video as it mentions my , My & . Yes the world has become more aware of Neuro-Spiciness, but I'm still not too sure about how supportive or tolerant the world has become.
Hey... People might not be bothered by it... but that doesn't mean that we aren't!
But, fundamentally this is why I thrive in training... I've spent time getting to grips with concept, theories and protocols and I'm able to explain them in a way that makes sense, is memorable and engaging!

A Social Introduction... It has been pointed out to me that nowhere on my Social Feeds do I introduce What we do or Where we do it, let alone Who I am...

So here goes…

This is the first crazily exciting instalment of who we are or at least in this... who I am. The face behind Different Perspective Training Ltd.

Owning my own business has been a learning journey in itself.. I have to say I didn't think that it would involve me sitting in my office filming myself talking to a camera!

Every day's a school day...

We had quite a small programme last week with a mix of delegates working hard to meet the required standards for their specific qualifications, including the 2-day Forest School First Aid, 2-day Paediatric First Aid and the 2-day Outdoor First Aid.
Two of the delegates had signed up for the 1-day Outdoor FA course, but I received a text at 8pm saying that they’d shuffled their diary around to enable themselves to attend the second day!
I was honestly chuffed to pieces. I’ve never received such an amazing compliment! They loved day one & couldn’t wait to see what day two entailed!
Honoured!
Well… they passed & they loved the second day even more than the first!!

Our 2025 Training Diary kicked off at full tilt this week with a day spent running a First Aid for Schools programme as Staff INSET at Langley Park School for Boys. It was a bit of a blast from the past as the neighbouring girls school, LPGS, was where I taught as the second placement for my PGCE, back in 2006!
Take-homes from this post…
1- yes, I’m a fully qualified teacher & I loved teaching, but unfortunately, among other things, my dyslexic brain didn’t like the administrative load that is more cumbersome and unwieldy that the actual standing up in front of a group of students.
2- I understand teachers, schools and teaching. I can relate to their daily challenges.
3- I’m blooming good at what I do… teach things in an understandable & engaging manner…
4- I’m pretty modest too! 😂
To talk training, INSET or anything else, get in touch!
