Are you interested in working or volunteering supporting children’s play and development? Join our fully funded Introduction to Playwork course at the Chestnut Centre. We are linking in with local playgroups and stay and plays to provide volunteering opportunities to move onto after the course. A great opportunity to gain experience of working with children and families for future employment or just to give something back to your local community. We would also love to hear from local playgroups who are looking for volunteers.

A lovely lady attended a recent Reading Friends course and sent us this message:

'I have found my Reading Friends experience so rewarding! I used to spend Mondays doing housework, however I now spend it with some really delightful school children, listening to and helping them discover the joys of reading.

I've made some lovely connections, have felt valued and trusted by both the children and the staff at school. It's been a more positive experience than I expected. The joy when you clearly spark something in even just one child is unmeasurable.

My confidence as a reading friend has also grown over time, and the experience has gifted me a new way to approach reading with my own primary aged children.

I do enjoy it immensely'

Thinking about volunteering as a Reading Friend? Get in touch, we have courses available that will give you the skills, confidence and knowledge you need to support children who would love a Reading Friend 🥰
