National Poetry Day 1st October 2026

Last week we celebrated National Poetry Day with Julia, who came in to work with children in Reception as part of our topic Marvellous Me! The children created their own poems using their own words and pictures. They presented them to the whole school on Thursday.

🌺🎨 Inspired by Frida Kahlo!

This half term, our Reception focus artist is Frida Kahlo, the famous Mexican artist known for her colourful self-portraits and beautiful use of flowers.

Inspired by her artwork, the children have been busy creating their own flower garlands, carefully threading and arranging flowers to wear in their hair. 🌸🌼

As well as exploring art and creativity, this activity is helping children strengthen their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and control, all important foundations for writing. ✏️

What beautiful creations, Reception! 💐💛

✏️🌟 Our Reception Writers!

We’re so proud of the wonderful progress our Reception children are making on their journey to becoming writers!

From their starting points of making marks, drawing shapes and developing pencil control, the children are now working hard to form letters correctly, using the sounds they are learning in phonics. 🔤✏️

Every mark, shape and letter is an important step towards becoming a confident writer. Well done, Reception! 💛

📚 Reception Phonics & Reading

A huge thank you to everyone who joined our Phonics and Reading Workshop last week! 🌟

Our Reception children continue to work incredibly hard in their phonics lessons, practising the sounds they already know and learning new ones each week. They are also developing their blending, reading, storytelling, vocabulary and comprehension skills. 📖

We’re so proud of their progress! 💛

🍂 Autumn Garden Tidy Up 🍂

A huge thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who helped with our Autumn Garden Tidy Up! 🌿💚

It was fantastic to see parents, grandparents and families working together, giving their time to help care for our school grounds. What a wonderful example to our children of teamwork, community spirit and looking after our environment.

Our gardens are an important learning space too, supporting our KS1 learning about plants, habitats and seasonal change.

Thank you for helping our school community flourish! 🍁🌱

What an inspirational morning! 🏃👏

Our School Council represented our school to cheer on Sir Kevin Sinfield as he took on his incredible 7 in 7 Challenge in support of the MND community.

A fantastic real-life example for our children of courage, determination, friendship and making a difference. Well done Sir Kevin; keep going! 🌟
