First Class Day Care is one of four nurseries owned and managed by Birkbees Limited and operates for 51 weeks of the year between the hours of 7:30 till 6:00. First class offers a warm environment, close to Huddersfield Town Centre. The nursery has been established since 1993 and was acquired by the Birkbees group in 2013 The nursery is undergoing a complete renovation, providing new and bright learning spaces. There is a strong emphasis on educational play and development and children are grouped according to age and development There are secure outdoor play spaces to which provides an exciting outdoor learning area where children are encouraged to take care of their environment.

Pre school have been in the autumn theme this week enjoying different activities. This morning they enjoyed making some pumpkin soup in the messy tray outdoors. They looked at the different colours, did some mixing and enjoyed role play.

Pre school enjoying outdoor play this morning. We did some outdoor painting. We painted some egg boxes and cardboard boxes. The children looked at the different colours and mixed them to see what it changed into. Some children played with the babies exploring and using their wide imagination in role play. They dressed the babies, rocked them to sleep and played mummies.

Sensory Nature Walk

The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a sensory nature walk. They explored the natural environment using their senses and showed great curiosity as they discovered a variety of sights, textures, colours and smells along the way.

The children enjoyed collecting conkers and autumn leaves, talking about the different colours and changes they could see in the environment. They also explored the fruit trees, picking apples and pears and discussing the different sizes, shapes and colours.

The activity also provided opportunities to promote early mathematical development. The children practised counting as they collected and counted how many apples and pears they could find, supporting their understanding of numbers and quantity in a meaningful, hands-on way.

Overall, the nature walk provided a wonderful opportunity for the children to explore, investigate and develop their communication, sensory awareness and early mathematical skills while enjoying the beauty of the natural environment.

Please join us to support Macmillan Cancer support on Friday 25th September 2026 by bringing some bakes!

We are having a bake sale in nursery, where staff, parents and children can get involved and bake to support Macmillan.

The bake sale will be in the corridor in the entrance of nursery. All funds raised will go to Macmillan.

If you would like to get involved, please bring all bakes to nursery by Thursday 24th September ready to go out on sale the following day.
