🌟 Had a brilliant day at the Kirklees Live Local Offer event! 🌟
It was lovely to see so many familiar faces and to meet new families too. Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Holme Valley Dyslexia Centre and Holme Valley Education Centre stand. It was great to chat about dyslexia assessments and support and tutoring across Kirklees.
Kirklees Local Offer and Kirklees PCAN did a fantastic job bringing families and services together.

✨ Huge shoutout to the amazing HAF Holiday team: Rob, Freya, Mim & Sadie! ✨
Proud to have been part of such a fantastic team giving the kids a summer to remember. 🌞💛
Thank you to our volunteer suspects and the local businesses who supported us in making this happen. And thank you to the amazing children who attended.
The children have formed some amazing friendships and we’ve seen their confidence, creativity and teamwork grow week by week.
From finding evidence to interviewing suspects, they threw themselves into every challenge and it’s been incredible to watch their problem-solving skills (and imaginations!) come alive. 🕵️♀️🔎
Already looking forward to the next adventure! 💫

🕵️♀️ CRIME SCENE: HOLME VALLEY! 🕵️♂️
Something mysterious is going down this August… and our young detectives are on the case! 🧪🔍💼
From 5th–29th August, our HAF Holiday Club becomes a full-blown Crime Scene Investigation!
There’s a magical artefact missing… and five local suspects in the frame:
🥦 The Greengrocer
🦴 The Osteopath
📚 The Author
🍻 The Pub Landlady
💼 The Business Owner
Who dunnit?! Our super sleuths (ages 7–11) will follow the trail, interview suspects, and crack the case wide open! 🧠💥
We can’t wait to welcome our young investigators in just over a week! 🎉
Massive thanks to:
🦴 for your generous financial contribution
🥦 for jumping into the mystery and providing weekly fruit supplies
🍻 for use of your amazing space
📝 for bringing the drama
📽️ for helping inspire our detectives
Let the sleuthing begin… 👣🕵️♀️

Holme Valley businesses, can you support our summer holiday club?
We’re First Education Hub CIC, running a free holiday club this August in the Holme Valley for children on free school meals or with SEND, funded through the HAF programme by Kirklees Council.
To help us create a safe, active and inspiring summer, we’re reaching out to local businesses and community organisations for support.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
⚽ Loan of sports equipment including footballs, rounders sets, cricket kits, parachutes, tennis rackets etc.
🥪 Packed lunch items such as sandwiches, fruit, biscuits, crisps and drinks
🏡 Venues we can use as a base for part or all of the day
🌿 Nature hunt opportunities including safe outdoor spaces or guided local walks
🎨 Arts and crafts resources, board games and fun activity supplies
🏪 Business visits or workshops to give children a chance to learn about different roles and industries
🕵️♀️ Crime Scene Investigation Week where local businesses can volunteer as “suspects” so children can practise interviewing and solving a mock investigation
🤝 Or anything you could offer that would help make the summer special
Inspired by Marcus Rashford’s efforts to support young people during school holidays, our goal is to create opportunity, fun and connection.
If you can help in any way, please DM us or email [email protected]

🧠💬 Dyslexia in the spotlight
This Monday at 9pm, Jamie Oliver shares his personal journey with dyslexia in a new Channel 4 documentary, Jamie’s Dyslexia Revolution.
As someone who’s faced the challenges of learning differently, Jamie is using his platform to show just how important understanding and the right support can be.
Raising awareness like this helps shift the conversation, from “what’s wrong?” to “what does this learner need to thrive?” It’s a step toward greater understanding, earlier support, and more inclusive learning for all.
