Exhibiting always looks effortless from the outside: polished stand, smiling faces, great conversations. The reality is carrying far more than you planned from the car, hoping the lift works, and somehow losing your voice by lunchtime.

I've exhibited at venues of all sizes over the years, and learned almost everything the hard way, including a memorable phase of holding banners up with duct tape (they worked, mostly!)

I've just written up the honest version of what I've learned: what to pack, why you shouldn't go it alone, and the small kit that's saved the day more times than I can count.

A little reflection from Ideas Fest, where CirKits was a finalist in the UK StartUp Awards this year.

We didn't win, but I came away feeling more certain than ever about why this work matters. Being a finalist meant our STEM workshops and tactile learning resources were recognised well beyond our local schools, and I got to spend the day with founders who understand exactly what it takes to build something values-led from scratch.

I also brought my husband along this year, which meant a lot, letting him see first hand the world I usually only describe to him after a long day.

If you're a school, a parent, or simply someone who believes in hands-on learning, thank you for being part of the community that makes days like this worth it.

Behind the scenes: packing exhibition freebies for CirKits! 🎒✨

I love creating freebies for stands so children have a little something to remind them of their experience.

This time I’m trying something new: colouring books (with crayons) and introducing the “CirKits Dudes”. They’ll be just one of the freebies we’ll have at the stand.

🎉 What an incredible surprise! 🎉

I’m absolutely thrilled (and still a bit in shock!) to share that I’ve been shortlisted for the ‘STEM Icon of the Year’ at the 2025 STEM Awards.

To even be considered alongside so many inspiring leaders and role models in our sector is an honour I never imagined.

Being part of STEM Ambassadors and working with so many brilliant minds and enthusiastic young people in the North East and Yorkshire/Humber has honestly been a highlight of my year. Thank you to RTC’s STEM Hub and everyone who keeps championing new ideas into STEM. It really does take a community.

I’m grateful for every conversation, workshop, challenge, and breakthrough along the way. Here’s to making an impact together, and to all the people (students, teachers, colleagues, parents, educators, charities, organisations) who have cheered me on.
