Last week we held an immersive bomb scene investigation workshop as part of a week-long forensic science camp for Queen Ethelburga's International Summer School.

A whole section of campus was cordoned off, with students zoning out areas for more thorough examination, before collecting exhibits and analysing accordingly.

Special shout out to local businesses Electroparts Ltd & KG Auto Engineers, who helped source lots of the materials used for the scene!

Five quick crime scene investigation tips every aspiring forensic scientist should know ⚠

Thinking like a forensic scientist starts with the basics. Here are five essential crime scene tips:

🔍 Observation is always key.

📸 Document everything. Photos, sketches, and detailed notes preserve evidence exactly as it was found.

🧤 Prevent contamination. Integrity of evidence is always essential.

📦 Package evidence correctly. Different types of evidence require different packaging to maintain quality and prevent cross-contamination.

🧩 Every detail matters. Small traces like fibres, fingerprints, or footprints can become the key to solving a case.

Whether you're studying forensic science or simply fascinated by criminal investigations, mastering these fundamentals is the first step toward professional crime scene analysis.

Spot the earrings 👀

Last week two of our team were facilitating a Pathology & Forensic Archeology workshop, and unbeknownst to each other, both wore their anatomical heart earrings to fit the theme 😂

If this doesn't prove just how much the team love their job, we're not sure what does ❤️
