🎻 MEET THE TEAM: PETER! 🎻

​Week two of our spotlight is here! Today we’re excited to introduce Peter (Mr. Simons), Assistant Principal, Upper String & Ensemble Teacher, and key player on our Kirklees festival team! 🎼✨

​Peter started playing the violin at just 4 years old, can play everything from the viola to the ocarina, and has even been featured as a musician on Classic FM! 📻👏

​Here’s a look at what makes Peter tick:

​What’s your favourite thing about making music?

​"I love playing in groups rather than alone—it’s a great way to learn and make friends! For me, conducting and composing is all about getting the best out of the people I work with."

​Classical or Rock? 🎸

​"To listen to, definitely Rock—I’m a massive Queen fan! 👑 But to play, I love Baroque music because you can really explore the phrasing and feel the music."

​Why is music so important?

​"Music has incredible mental health benefits, and everyone can get so much joy out of just giving it a go!" 🧠❤️

🌟 MEET THE TEAM: HELEN! 🌟

​First up in the spotlight is the wonderful Helen, a Headteacher and one of the passionate coordinators behind our Kirklees Primary Schools Music Festival! 🎤✨

​Here’s a little secret—Helen was actually part of this very festival when she was younger, and now she’s back helping make the magic happen for the next generation! 🎶

​Here is what Helen had to say about why she loves being part of the festival team:

​Why do you love being involved?

​"Music has always been my happy place! Seeing young people grow in confidence from the first rehearsal to the final performance is one of the best parts—it’s amazing to watch them shine as the day goes on. Music opens so many doors, and I love seeing everyone come together to create something really special."

​Dance floor favourite? 💃

​"If Bon Jovi or Take That comes on, you’ll probably find me singing along at the top of my lungs!" 🎸🎤

🎉 Meet the Crew Behind the Festival Magic! 🎉

​Our music festival is all about bringing Kirklees primary schools together—and the team bringing it to life are teachers and headteachers who live and breathe music in our schools every day! 🎶🏫

​While school’s out for the summer, we’ll be introducing you to the passionate educators on our organising team! Keep an eye on our page to see who's making the magic happen behind the scenes (and maybe find out which song gets them straight on the dancefloor!). 🕺💃🤭

A big shout out to Ravenshall School, from day 3 of our festival this year! 👏✨️🎶
They signed and sung to Lean on Me while being accompanied by an acoustic guitar, there was not a dry eye in the house 🥹❤️

An exciting evening was had!
As we are still riding on a high after the amazing festival last week, and breathing a massive sigh of relief that it wasn't this week, we had a committee meeting about the festival next year 👏🥳🎉

Such a big congratulations to All Hallows’ School, Birkenshaw Primary School, Grange Moor Primary, Hill View Academy, New Mill Junior School, Newsome Junior Academy, Oak C.E Primary School, Paddock J,I&N School, Shaw Cross I&N School, South Crossland C.E. Junior School, St John’s C.E J&I School, Whitechapel C.E Primary. You all sang with gusto to finish our last night at Huddersfield Town Hall 🎶🥳
