🎓 PARAMEDIC BALL 2025 💃

Right, yes — this post is very much overdue, but in our defence… graduating, sorting HCPC registration, and trying to recover from the trauma of third year has kept us a little busy.
(Also, turns out adulthood is mostly just emails and mild stress. Who knew? 😩)

BUT — what a night. The Paramedic Ball was absolutely class. Everyone looked suspiciously clean, emotionally stable, and not carrying a clipboard or trauma shears. It was lovely to see so many of you in one place without a simulation patient screaming in the background ✨🩺

We had food, drinks, highly questionable dance moves, and enough laughs to count as CPD (don’t ask the HCPC). And of course… awards were handed out. Some serious. Some slightly chaotic.

🎖️ Your Student Paramedic of the Year 2025 winners:

🏆 Undergraduate Year 1 – Faith Young, sponsored by CPDme - CPD Portfolio Building Made Simple and Class Professional Publishing

🏆 Undergraduate Year 2 – Fran Boyle, sponsored by Class Professional Publishing and TASC The Ambulance Staff Charity

🏆 Undergraduate Year 3 – Megan Gash, sponsored by HT Direct First Aid Training Services and Class Professional Publishing

🏆 Masters Year 1 – Hannah Bristowe, sponsored by First Plus Medical Limited and Class Professional Publishing

🏆 Masters Year 2 – Emma Ridpath, sponsored by Ems Ambulance EventMedical and Class Professional Publishing

🏆 Degree Apprentice – Pete Elcock, sponsored by Whole Systems Partnership and Class Professional Publishing

And then came the lecturer awards. We started with one.
Jenny won Lecturer of the Year — because let’s be honest, she absolutely smashed it all year and we’d trust her with our essays, our careers, and probably our lives. 💅

Then, in true society fashion, things spiralled.

Ash walked off with Course Leader of the Year — which sounds really prestigious until you remember he was the only course leader. But to be fair, he’s carried us through three years of chaos, OSCEs, and mild emotional scarring… so we gave him an inflatable trophy to say thanks. As one does. 🤷‍♂️🏆

To the new grads — congratulations, legends. You’ve survived.
To the second years — it’s your circus now. We’re handing over the reins, the society passwords, and probably a few unresolved traumas. Don’t burn it down. Or do. Just make it entertaining.

The class of 2025 - signing off.

🚑💚 Today is International Paramedics Day! 💚🚑

We’re proud to celebrate the incredible dedication, skill, and compassion of paramedics around the world. 🌍

The theme this year is "unity and community", highlighting how paramedics work closely with each other, partners and other health and social care colleagues to improve lives - one patient at a time.

Whether it’s responding to emergencies, helping in times of need or simply offering calm in the chaos—paramedics are there when it matters most.

Today, we also honour our student paramedics working hard to become the next generation of lifesavers, and the paramedic educators and lecturers guiding and shaping their journey with passion and expertise 💚.

👏 THANK YOU to all paramedics, students, and educators for your service, commitment, and resilience. Here's to us!

Sad news, what a legacy to leave behind.
RIP Professor Chamberlain 💚.

It is with deep sadness that we mark the passing of Professor Douglas Chamberlain.

A pioneer, a mentor, and a true visionary, Professor Chamberlain was rightly regarded as the grandfather of paramedicine. His unparalleled contributions laid the very foundations of our profession—not only shaping the role of the paramedic but championing its development with unrelenting dedication and compassion.

Professor Chamberlain’s work transformed pre-hospital care in the UK and around the world. His commitment to clinical excellence, education, and patient-centred care has saved countless lives and inspired generations of paramedics. We owe him an immense debt of gratitude.

Though he is no longer with us, his legacy is woven into the fabric of our profession. Every paramedic, every patient helped, every life saved bears the imprint of his vision.

On behalf of the College and the entire paramedic community, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. Rest in peace, Professor. Your legacy lives on.

Our Yorkshire Three Peaks team have recovered from last week’s challenge and the new total raised for TASC The Ambulance Staff Charity is now over £2000 (including gift aid) which is simply amazing - thank you so much everyone!

20/07/2024

And that’s a wrap on our Yorkshire Three Peaks adventure! What a day. Every single one of us faced some of our toughest challenges yet but we dug in deep when we needed to and got the job done! Well done team.

Thank you to everyone who has donated to our team fundraising, we have managed to raise over £1300 for TASC The Ambulance Staff Charity which is just incredible and got us through some of those tough moments today! There’s still time to donate if you haven’t had chance yet - see the link in the comments!

Thank you also to Emma, Abi and Stu from Yorkie Talkies Outdoors. You kept us going through the (minor) blood, (lots of) sweat and (occasional) tears and we couldn’t have done it without you.
