Denby CE - VA First School

Our Year 1, 2 and 3 pupils enjoyed a fabulous cycling session with Little Bikers yesterday. The children completed agility courses, starting and stopping safely and, for those children not yet confident on a pedal bike, the support of the instructors was amazing. Two children in Year 1 rode independently for the first time to the pride of the staff and instructors. Well done to you all!

At lunch, we celebrated our Year 5’s in style! We had a lovely lunch with children and staff where we ate, sang and even danced! Thank you to Lisa for our lovely spread of delicious food 😀

Year 5 have had a great start to the day pranking Mr Oldham with their ‘bake off’. Mr Oldham thoroughly enjoyed eating biscuits covered in lemon juice, chilli powder, sardines and many more delicious toppings! 😁

Day 3! After good night’s sleep, we are out and about doing various practical activities! We’re carving in the tool shed, cooking on the fire, using flints to start our own fires and building trust on the nightline course!

Day 2! After…some…sleep, we’ve had an action packed day! Climbing, archery, orienteering and a walk in the river! Plus, the much anticipated talent show!

Our 2026 Class 3 residential is officially underway!! After a great walk and a lovely picnic in the woods, we have been met by a great team and we’re straight into lots of fun team building activities! Followed by bed making (superb entertainment as always) and a chance to watch England sail (turbulently) into the next round! A quick play out, supper and then bed!

Today we harvested our broad beans!
