Another fantastic day of gardening lessons for all our children with Vashti from Grow to school. We have harvested, weeded and planted. We were also able to add compost from our wormery and leaf mould compost of our own too.
Comments from our children when they were asked about their gardening included, ‘I was happy about my beetroot, I pulled one out,’ and ‘My double carrot had legs.’
Our older children could say why we needed nitrogen in the soil when we rotated our vegetable beds.
We welcomed members of Denby Conservation Group who joined us today to see how our gardening lessons work and how they can further support us with our gardening. Thank you for your help.
Well done gardeners! 🌳 🐌

Our new Eco-team had a busy first meeting today, they collected and considered the results for the Environmental Review and started to look at Energy Sparks, the online energy analysis tool and education programme we will be using.
Well done team 🌳

Congratulations to our newly appointed Eco-team who were presented with certificates and welcomed into their roles today. Their first job was to receive a letter of accreditation and a banner from Hannah at the Ministry of Eco-Education, who visited to congratulate us on our Eco-schools work and talk about sustainability.

The team then took our Environmental Review back to their classes to complete. This will help us shape this year’s Action Plan.

A massive thank you to all the children who applied. We were so proud to see the enthusiasm and commitment shown and look forward to working with all you on our Eco-schools journey.

Thank you too to our fantastic outgoing Eco-team, you have contributed so much and we are sure you will continue to bring your knowledge and experience to our work in school.

Thank you also to Hannah for your visit today, we look forward to your next one. 🌎

This week our Year 1 to 5 children attended a live assembly to relaunch WOW - the Walk to School Challenge. Our children were really enthusiastic about re-launching the project and enjoyed taking part in the interactive quiz. We learned that when we walk, we use 200 muscles! Our travel ambassadors will be recording how we travel to school and we are hoping that we will be able to climb the leaderboard of schools taking part! Kirklees

Today our brilliant Eco-team led a Collective Worship to launch the search for this year’s new Eco-team members.

They shared important work they do to help care for our school and the environment and encouraged children to nominate themselves for a place on the team.

An email has been sent home with details.

Applications are in for Wednesday and we look forward to reading them.🌳

Our Head Gardeners had an enjoyable and interesting morning today, meeting Denby Conservation Group who have been looking after our garden over summer. After what has been a long hot summer, our veg beds (including a new one), the pond, wheel barrows, hot bin, wormer and surrounding area are looking fantastic. We now have some top tips for our garden jobs too.
We were excited to hear the Conservation Group spotted a hedgehog 🦔 in our grounds over summer.
They also provided our Cook with veg that had been harvested over summer that we will eat in our lunches.

Thank you for all your hard work, Denby Conservation Group.

Our Year 1, 2 and 3 pupils enjoyed a fabulous cycling session with Little Bikers yesterday. The children completed agility courses, starting and stopping safely and, for those children not yet confident on a pedal bike, the support of the instructors was amazing. Two children in Year 1 rode independently for the first time to the pride of the staff and instructors. Well done to you all!
