Liberation Conversation

Currently in Iran, every major city and town across the nation is outraged. With protest on the streets and in the home.

It has come from the anger of the Iranian peoples after a hard 43 years under a draconian theocratic dictatorship.

The protests started after the murder of Masha Amini, who was a 22 year old Kurdish-Iranian woman.

She was arrested for not meeting the proper standard for the Hijab. However, her Kurdish identity is another reason the ‘morality’ police would of specifically targeted her. With The Iranian government seeing the Kurds and any other ethnic group as lesser then and has a track record of persecution against these groups.

Mahsa passed away three days after her arrest while in a coma, she passed from injuries sustained by multiple beatings by morality police to the head and torso.

Mahsa has become the Martyr of the protest, an innocent traveling with her family murdered by a dictatorship, which persecutes its own citizens and break the tenants of their faith.

With the protest still going and genral internet and cellular service being cut-off on Friday the 23rd, the people of Iran need us to speak up and fight.

Protest in Iran are not uncommon, but now the whole nation from the Caspian, to the Persian Gulf, and Kurdistan, to Baluchistan are all protesting together united. One can only imagine what this could mean.

The burning of headscarves and the cutting of hair (ancient Persian mourning tradition) are being used as major protest strategies.

We have collated a list of diaspora Iranian voices and those of informed allies. Who shall be posted into the stories with posts on many aspects of the protest.

Ezidi, The Yezidis (Yazidis) live principally in northern Iraq. There are approximately one million Ezidi worldwide. Historically, the Yezid-
is lived primarily in communities in locales that are in present-day Iraq, Syria, and Turkey, and also had significant numbers in Armenia and
Georgia. Surviving over 72 genocides and expulsions since the late 300's, the Yezidis, are one of the oldest ethno-religions, they can trace their re-

Join us at this year’s Welcome Fair (on the 20th) to meet members of our committee and learn about our future events and overall ethos. We will have information about our topics of interest, and treats for you to enjoy!

This is our first year as a society, so we’re really looking forward to our first chance to get to know everyone!

🌎 Our aims:

* Run public & University only educational events on liberation movements globally (linguistic, cultural, national). (On a 1/3 to 2/3 ratio)
* Run social community events. (Workshop/informal styles)
* Run ticketed/fundraiser events. (With one half going to a relative charity and the other half going to society upkeep.)

🌏 Our Goals:

* To educate on issues of historical, modern, and ongoing liberation movements.
* Raise awareness on the issues these movements stemmed from and 'how to help'.
* To raise £1k in charitable donations.

July is Disability Pride Month.

The Disability Pride Flag was a collaborative design effort by Ann Magill, a disabled woman, and the disabled community to refine its visual elements:

The Black Field: A color of mourning and rage; for those who are victims of Ableist violence, and also rebellion and protest

The Five Colors: The variety of needs and experiences (Invisible and undiagnosed disabilities, physical disabilities, neurodivergence, psychiatric disabilities, sensory disabilities)

The Parallel Stripes: Solidarity within the Disability Community and all its differences

The Diagonal Band: “Cutting across” barriers that separate disabled people; creativity and light cutting through the darkness

Hello and welcome to the newly founded Liberation Conversation society at the University of Huddersfield! 🎉

Our mission is to hold a place on campus for students to learn about different communities/movements and how they have 'liberated' themselves, ranging from national aspirations to linguistic revitalisation.

The topics will range through the ages and across the globe.
