**A-Level Results Day — Thursday 🎓🍀**

I know this can be an incredibly anxious time for students waiting for their results.

To everyone opening that envelope on Thursday — I’m wishing you the very best of luck. 💚

As a Biology tutor, I’ve seen the hard work, late nights and determination that go into these exams. And while results matter, they’re **not the whole story**.

Whatever your grades, I hope you feel proud of what you’ve achieved. You’ve built resilience, discipline and problem-solving skills that will stay with you long beyond A-Levels.

For me, getting outside helps when I need to clear my head. This morning, I went for a jog around Tooting Bec Common and stopped by the pond — a little reminder to pause, breathe and enjoy the moment. 🌿

Last week we said goodbye to the remarkable Bill Oddie.

My earliest memory of him is watching The Goodies as a child. I remember the wonderfully silly humour, the catchy theme tune and laughing along.

As I grew older, I watched him in a very different role—as a naturalist and broadcaster. He had an incredible ability to make nature accessible and fascinating. He spoke with genuine enthusiasm and had a real gift for helping people see the beauty of the natural world, especially birds. Reading his daughter’s tribute, I realised there was so much more to him than the television personality I had known over the years.

Bill Oddie has always reminded me of what I strive to achieve in every Biology lesson.

Biology isn’t just a collection of facts to memorise for an exam; it’s the story of life. From the birds in the garden to the cells in our bodies, every topic has a real-world connection. When students understand why something matters, they’re far more likely to remember it—and, just as importantly, enjoy learning it.

Whether I’m teaching GCSE or A-Level Biology, my goal is always the same: to help students see the wonder behind the science, while giving them the knowledge, confidence and exam skills to achieve their best.

P.S. This photo was taken by my daughter while she was on holiday with friends in Skiathos. She spotted it, knew I’d love it and took the photo for me. I think Bill Oddie would have smiled too.

Biology is all around us... you just have to stop and look. 🌿

✨ There is no such thing as a boring topic in Biology.

I genuinely believe that.

This week I was revising Exchange across cell membranes with a Year 13 student.

At first glance, they can seem like fairly simple topics. Some students even think they feel a bit like GCSE Biology.

But I see something completely different.

I see the incredible ways cells have evolved to move substances across their membranes with such precision.

Every movement has a purpose. Every transport mechanism has evolved for a reason.

The more you look, the more fascinating it becomes.

And that’s because these aren’t just facts to memorise.

They’re the foundations for understanding:

🧬 How hormones communicate with cells
🩺 How our kidneys selectively reabsorb glucose
💉 Why diabetes develops

That’s why I still get goosebumps talking about Biology, even after more than 25 years of teaching.

When a student suddenly makes those connections and realises how one “simple” topic unlocks so much of human physiology... that’s one of the best moments in teaching.

Now I’m curious...

Nidahl is 24, and right now her mum Zeinab is going through one of the toughest times of her life. After being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in January, she’s currently going through chemotherapy – and if she reaches remission, she’ll need a stem cell transplant.

Zeinab’s consultant told the family that it would be harder to find a match due to her ethnic background – Zeinab is Eritrean - so Nidahl has been inspired to take action and raise more awareness to help her mum and other people awaiting a stem cell transplant.
