Yesterday I completed my list of 10 guitarists in 10 days that made a contribution one way or another to my guitar style. Today it's time for honourable mentions. These are artists who although are guitarists, I don't think they have influenced my guitar style in any way, ( however, others may hear their influence on me) but their overall attitude has made an impression on me.

Todd Rundgren. A multi instrumentalist, visionary producer and progressive thinker. Todd has always thought outside of the box and has created varied, authentic and genuine music that has come from the heart without thought of deliberate commercial reward. A free spirit and an innovator of the highest level. His attitude has always inspired me (plus I think as I get older I am starting to look like him! Lol).

Neil Young. Another, yet very different innovator. And one not afraid to channel his inner darkness via his sepulchral high voice and tortured guitar work. He once said, he always went the way the music took him. I try and do that as well, in my own way.

It's day 10 of the 10 guitarists who have in one way or another contributed to my guitar style.

Johnny Ramone. Mainly for his wall of sound approach to the guitar which at its best always feels like shifting energy. Or sheer power that the listener can tap into. Again, a bit like a rocket engine taking you somewhere. I always feel that when you hear his work, you get a shot of the energy that he creates. Plus, from a perspective of sheer endurance, playing like that the entire time is really impressive.

Day 9 of the 10 guitarists who have made an impact on my musical journey.

Poison Ivy.
As a rule, I go for guitarists that create music that is a cross between a rocket engine and a radio signal from another galaxy. But with Ivy, her playing takes the elements of American roots music, and places them in a haunted house of the darkest rock'n'roll. She creates drama in the music by not over playing and she always seems on the edge of going wrong, but never makes a mistake. More of an influence on the music I did with Death Party UK than anything else. But again, it's her attitude to song arrangement that I like so much.
