On Thursday, I had the pleasure of visiting the Hucknall National C of E Primary School, and it turned out to be a truly uplifting experience from start to finish. I was warmly welcomed by the Headteacher, Sarah, whose passion for the school was evident from the very first moment. She introduced me to the school’s executive team, an impressive group of six Year 6 pupils who proudly serve as the school’s young leaders.

These pupils did a fantastic job guiding me on a tour of the school. With confidence and enthusiasm, they shared insights about their classrooms, learning spaces, and the many activities that make their school such a vibrant place. It was inspiring to see such leadership and pride in their school at such a young age. Their sense of responsibility and teamwork speaks volumes about the culture being nurtured within the school community.

One of the most heartwarming moments of the visit was spending time with the preparatory class. I had lunch with the lovely toddlers, whose energy, curiosity, and cheerful chatter filled the room with joy. Watching them interact with their teachers and one another was a wonderful reminder of how important those early years of learning and care truly are.

During the visit, I also had the pleasure of meeting Gary, the school’s Site Manager. From the Headteacher to the Year 6 leaders, everyone had lovely things to say about him. It quickly became clear why. Gary help keep the school running smoothly every single day.

I also learned that Gary played a significant role in ensuring the school remains where it is today, a testament to his deep commitment not just to the building itself, but to the children and the wider community it serves.

It was a memorable visit, and I left encouraged by the strong leadership, the bright young pupils, and the dedicated staff who together make the school such a special place.

Please help us raise money for an outdoor reading area at Hucknall National Primary School. Reading isn’t just for the classroom and is something we can enjoy in our free time too. Help us encourage our students to enjoy reading during their break times too with a designated reading area on their playground. Let’s show them that reading can be enjoyed anywhere at anytime.
We might also open this up before and after school to encourage book swapping too.
Please, please help us raise money through our Just Giving page (link in bio). Share far and wide so we can get everyone involved.
Thank you.

This is Ellie, a student at Hucknall National Primary School. A while ago, she decided to cut her very long hair and donate it to the Little Princess Trust. She has raised £850 for the charity and had 12 inches of her hair cut off!
Our students continue to amaze us with their selflessness and acts of kindness. Well done, Ellie! We are all so proud of you.
