I escaped the bullies at school & found peace of mind by the water. I have met people from all walks of life but with one shared interest & passion. I struggled at school with core subjects but I enjoyed learnin

g, reading & researching the art of Angling. I never saw it as a career though until 2019 when I came across an opportunity to lease my own fishing lake and saw how much the sport helped other people, especially during the Pandemic. I knew I was a competent Angler but I didn't know if I would enjoy teaching others how to fish. I was unhappy in my corporate job so I decided I had nothing to lose by trying and this led to me completing my Angling coaching qualifications so that I could create Off The Scale Outdoor Education in 2021. I soon discovered there were very few affordable ways of learning to fish and it was very rare to find any coaches operating within schools. I knew it was a sport that required skill, patience and hand eye coordination. The more you put in to it, the more successful you become which is a great life lesson & had helped improve my confidence over the years. I was certain that we could turn it in to a fantastic science based sport experience. Turning a passion in to a business is not something many people get to do so I feel very privileged to be in this position."

As a full time angling coach I don't get a lot of time to fish in the warmer months. I did manage to negotiate a day off whilst on a recent holiday in Devon and decided to tick one off the bucket list by fishing one of the Anglers Paradise Eldorado day ticket venues. £10.75 through the Go Catch app Gocatchfish for more details. I didn't want a really hard venue with such a short window of opportunity so opted for the well stocked general coarse fishing lake with hopefully the chance of some Koi. Here's a VLOG of my day. Thanks to Westys Angling for the amazing hookbaits. Yellow potent sweetcorn wafters with added worm underneath scoring for all the runs on the day. Hybrid feeders with pellet and groundbait.

On a recent trip down to Devon to visit family, I decided to tick one off the bucket list and book a ticket through Gocatchfish. A quick and simple process. Anglers Paradise has changed a lot since I first saw it on a fishing TV show, Total Fishing, hosted by Matt Hayes. It's always been famous for ornamental varieties of Koi, Orfe & Tench.

The main complex has accommodation with exclusive access to some of the fishing lakes but they have also dug more up the road that are available on day/24 hour tickets. I booked a ticket for the general coarse fishing lake that also gives you the rights to fish the Koi & Tench lake. There are also 2 specimen Carp & Catfish lakes to try but these also require a membership.

It ended up being an action packed day with 18 Carp landed, 2 hook pulls & one that ended up getting in a snag. I also had 2 double runs (both rods going off at the same time) which has only happened a handful of times in my life. Hectic, rod bending action using pellets/groundbait in hybrid feeders and my favourite Westys Angling yellow sweetcorn wafters with worm added, 12lb Daiwa UK Sensor line to an 11lb banded hooklength.

Once I had packed up, I headed to the famous fishing themed bar for a pint. Amazing day & some great memories. I highly recommend you try this place if you are down South.

Really hard fishing at Fall Birch Lodge Coarse Fishery this last couple of weeks. Lots of anglers struggling for better fish and those using natural baits are mainly picking up small silvers & the odd newly stocked Tench & Carp. I have never seen the water levels as low as they are right now & it is certainly affecting the fish feeding. Rain....please come!

Off The Scale has just received its 100th five star 🌟 review on Google.

I often send a link out after we've finished our activity and never expect 5 stars.....but that seems to be what the majority of people feel our delivery deserves!
