It really is such a rewarding part of the process to hear from Old Cottesmorian parents

Wonderful artist and friend of Cottesmore School Jeremy Farmer painted the glorious view at Cottesmore from the Rose Garden toward Box Hill.

His clean lines and controlled palette calm the soul - they are the perfect antidote for the chaos surrounding us that the moment.

This young Cottesmore School chess star is playing for Sussex Junior Chess at the National Association Under 9 Team Championship Finals 2021 run by the English Primary Schools’ Chess Association. He is part of the team, representing Sussex County. He has been placed on board 5. He will play 5 games against the other National County finalists. By all accounts it is a big deal in the junior chess world and in ordinary times they would travel to the competition and it would involve a night away. It’s all part of the build up to trying to play for England. Send him good luck vibes!

Charity, Heart Felt Tips, was in the house this morning.

Founder of the charity, Artist Jeremy Houghton talked to us at 8.30am this morning at assembly.

The idea is that one fills a pencil case with new or nearly new stationery and sends it to Cottesmore School, or the collection point.

It will then be taken to the Food Bank from where the pencil cases will be dispersed to children who would otherwise struggle to get hold of good stationery.

Cottesmore’s last collection of pencil cases went to the children affected by the Grenfell Tower fire

HUGE ACHIEVEMENT ALERT!

Cottesmore nominated for “Independent Prep School of the Year” at the ‘Oscars of the Education World’

We hope that you will join us in applauding the whole Cottesmore community - girls, boys, the teaching team, parents and support team - for its wonderful nomination at the national Times Educational Supplement Awards 2023.

Cottesmore is the only boarding prep school chosen for a nomination for “Independent Prep School of the Year 2023” - one of the four biggest awards of the ceremony. The event was held on Park Lane in London at The Grosvenor and included both state schools and independent schools - there was a huge buzz and a tangible frisson of national-level excitement on the night.

A school in central Birmingham won the award in the end but we are still hugely honoured to have been chosen as nominees. Thank you to the Tes Institute team for bestowing upon Cottesmore this great honour.

Best Schools Awards 2023

Cottesmore has been named as a finalist in the national Best Schools Awards 2023 by Muddy Stilettos.

Well done to the matrons, Head of Boarding, medical team, cleaners, parents, Cottesmore girls and boys, chefs, catering team, secretaries, groundsmen, maintenance team, teaching team, Houseparents, finance team, conference delegates, gappers, dance teachers, independent listeners, music teachers, LAMDA coaches, inspectors (there are 17 inspections each year for various aspects of compliance life so thank you to those who perform those inspections), teachers, sporting opponents and their coaches, consultants, colleagues, advisors and friends!

Everyone who drives through the front gates, rings the Cottesmore lion’s head front doorbell and walks through the doors into Cottesmore School conspires relentlessly to make this school the best it can be.

If we win, or do not win, this is a wonderful acknowledgement of the efforts of every person at Cottesmore.

Coronation Weekend - Saturday afternoon: The Cottesmore Coronation Sporting Bonanza and Coronation Match Tea!

We received 150 guests at Cottesmore on Saturday afternoon - siblings, Old Cottesmorians, cousins, grandparents, friends and wider family.

The wet-weather ‘Plan B’ was deployed - with no cricket but pretty much everything else - which saw plenty of Old Cottesmorians returning to try their hand at the various activities that they remember from their Cottesmore days.

There were three coronation craft stations - people were sowing coronation wash-bags, painting ceramic tiles and making decoupage creations - and plenty of coronation cakes and match tea, obviously.

Hockey, football, shooting, tennis and swimming were also taking place at the same time

Wonderful to see Old Cottesmorian Luke Wallace scoring at Twickenham Stadium yesterday in the Premiership. Televised on BT Sports yesterday, Harlequins v Bath Rugby was a thriller of a match.
