Reading 10 Little Pirates, learning about Victorian seaside holidays, creating self-portraits, and practising for sports day! Plus our Pirate Picnic trip to Southwater Country Park on Friday 19th! 🦜

🏫 Year 1 - Victorian Schools 📜
Learning about Miss Hyde, a Victorian teacher at Southwater school! Discovering how different schools were back then. In maths, we're finding quarters. Plus pond dipping in our academy pond! 🐸

🌱 Year 2 - Trip Recount & Plants ✍️
Writing recounts of Monday's school trip, investigating plant growth conditions, and practising for our summer show Eddie the Penguin Saves the World! Plus sports day prep! 🏃‍♀️

🦋 Reception (w/c 8th June)
-Literacy & Maths
Practising the trigraph 'ear' in phonics, writing sentences about the story 'Clean Up', and investigating ways to make numbers up to 10.

-Understanding the World
Learning about the life cycle of a caterpillar through 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' and discussing the human life cycle.

-Creative Learning
Creating caterpillar lifecycle plates using pasta and exploring symmetry by making beautiful butterflies!

Plus: Woodland School continues and Sports Day practice is underway!

🏛️ Year 1 (w/c 18th May)
-Literacy
Discovering notable Victorians from Southwater's past including Dame Rayley and Bernard Holden, the old station master. Writing facts in our fact books!

--Maths
Exploring fractions - recognising and finding halves of objects, shapes and quantities.

Science & Art
Planting beans and keeping observation diaries. Creating patterns with natural materials like leaves, flowers and stones.

Plus: Sports Day practice begins and our trip to Amberley Museum is on Thursday 25th June!

-Literacy
Writing non-chronological reports about badgers ready for our trip to the British Wildlife Centre!

-Maths & Science
Revisiting place value and sorting things into alive, dead and never alive. Observing our bean seeds for germination.

Introducing 'Eddie the Penguin Saves the World' - learning the songs! 🐧🌍

Someone who is committed to improving outcomes for children of all abilities, has a solid understanding of early years education, and is ready to lead and develop inclusive practice across our school. You'll coordinate SEND provision, work closely with staff, parents, and external agencies, and help embed best practice throughout the academy.

Wow! We were so excited to arrive at school and see our amazing new playground markings! 🎉

A huge thank you to our wonderful Southwater Infant & Junior Academies PTFA for funding these fantastic additions to our playground. We can't wait to spend our playtimes hopping, skipping, learning, creating and having lots of fun with our friends.

Thank you to everyone who supports PTFA events and fundraising throughout the year. Your generosity helps make our academy an even more exciting place to learn and play.

Our little runners absolutely smashed today’s Mini Marathon! From speedy sprints to determined jogs, every child gave it their all and crossed the finish line with huge smiles ❤️

We are so proud of every single one of them 👏

📚Another exciting week ahead for our children! Here's a snapshot of what they'll be learning:

🌈 EYFS - Reading 'Once there were Giants', writing animal riddles, counting strategies, and designing sun hats!

📘 Year 1 - Exploring rhyme and friendship in 'We are Together', counting in 2s and 10s, identifying plant parts, and creating sculptures inspired by Andy Goldsworthy.

📗 Year 2 - Writing persuasive letters about the environment, observing bean plant growth, measuring in cm and m, and learning about road safety.
