At junior level I could win on skill. At senior level everyone is consistent, the shuttle keeps coming back, and the match turns into a physical battle. I hadn’t built my body for that, and I paid for it.

Look at Alex Lanier. As a junior he already had the body of a senior player, so when he stepped up he was ready.

If I could go back, I’d start preparing my body for senior badminton years before I got there. More strength work, more robustness, and the engine to keep going when rallies don’t end.

If you’re a junior making the step up, save this. If you know a player who needs to hear it, send it to them.

Your first game isn’t slow because you’re cold.

It’s usually because the fuelling started too late. A light dinner and a rushed breakfast leave you short before you’ve hit a shuttle.

Swipe for the three things I get my players to do before every tournament 👉

Comment FUEL and I’ll send you my free tournament fuelling plan.

Are you not improving?

This could be why ⬇️

You are training hard but you aren’t letting your body recover.

Yes you have to train hard but continuous hard work with no rest is detrimental.

Here is what you should do:

1. Take a break, this is good for your body and great for your mind

2. Change your focus to 1 thing. Give 100% to 1 thing instead of 20% to 5.

3. Slowly increase what you are doing each week. Your body will be able to handle it better.

Let’s start improving today!

Train SLOW to move FAST 💨

Doesn’t so right does it?

But it will make such a difference

Moving fast round the badminton court is about pure speed

It’s about agility, reacting to a stimulus (The shuttle) and changing direction quickly to adapt.

Now two underused elements really improve agility

1. Slow eccentric movements (E.G. the lowering phase of a lunge) these improve your braking strength and deceleration mechanics so you can stop fast and change direction quickly.

2. Stability - Espcially in the ankles. This improves the transfer of power in a different direction and once again helps with the deceleration phase of change of direction.

So want to move quick? Add these exercises to your training.

Train slower to move faster 💨

A strong core is the foundation for most movements.

And is often trained poorly

Full body lifts are a fundamental of core training. Stabilising lifting weights within a full body movement. (Squats, Deadlfits, snatches etc)

If you are choosing to do a more core focussed exercises, don’t think about number of reps. Its quality of each rep.

Slow and controlled. Focussing on the contraction rather than just getting the rep done.

A weak core will harm your badminton game. Build your game on a strong core 💪
