Hey everyone 🤍 I wanted to share a little update on all things me and MiniPlay.

Back in December, so many of you encouraged me to take a break, some of you who’ve been with me right from the start, and it was exactly what I needed to hear. Being self employed comes with a lot of guilt, and I’d been running at 100mph for others while quietly forgetting myself.

Now that we’re through January, I’m so grateful I paused. Winter, the weather, and the physical reality of setting up and packing away solo would have been too much. For nearly two years, my body has been through so much, and instead of fighting it, I’m learning to accept it and understand my new normal. After cancer treatment in many ways can be worse than treatment itself. I'm currently on two forms of tablets a day, a three monthly injection in my belly and a new six month infusion. All of which feels so unnatural. My body wasn't designed to be put into early menopause and it certainly wasn't expecting my levels of oestrogen to deplete so quickly. This leaves me with daily fatigue and SO much confusion as to whether any of this is actually worth it. Having to put your quality of life second is not a choice I take easily. I needed a brain break. To think, to research and make decisions and advocate for myself. From the outside I might look like I’m doing great and I am for the most part. My hair, feels like a promise...things will get better, but there’s also a lot happening behind the scenes that requires care and balance.

Right now, my focus is my family. They’re seeing a calmer, happier version of me, and that feels really special. We’re also preparing for a house move after 13 years of being in the same place, so life feels full in a very different way. Everyday, I'm organising, sorting, and going to the skip so that a move won't feel so stressful when it's time to leave.

MiniPlay is never an afterthought. I still believe wholeheartedly in play, I miss our lovely community, and I’ve held onto all my resources. Looking ahead, I hope to return to sessions in a way that works for you and for me, alongside tutoring, which I absolutely love, and I'm exploring some new hobbies from home, including digital products.

For now, I’m busy but not 'working.' The social media pause has been so good for my soul. Thank you for your continued kindness, support, and patience.

I would love to return with Friday sessions again come Spring. I'll start sharing how that will look soon on my stories in a few weeks. I've met parents from classes which is just so lovely and I had a real insight to what they miss the most. It's been invaluable to hear this first hand and realise my first vision for MiniPlay was the part they missed the most.

MiniPlay isn’t gone, it’s just resting 🤍
Watch this space.

Happy Friday
Much love

Hey everyone! I'm alive and doing well. Starting my days with juicing and this one was delicious!
Still very much needing this time to reset and prioritise what's important. We've had a very busy December and things are still going on in the background so apologies for the radio silence. Have missed seeing you all this week xx

And that's a wrap! What a magical term we've had. I'm now sat on my sofa feeling ready to relax knowing every tray is washed and my boxes packed away. It's been such a wonderful term!
Thank you for all the cards, chocs and presents and most importantly your attendance. Look forward to seeing you in the New Year, but for now

💚 A little MiniPlay update. January Pause

I wanted to share a quick update with you all and be completely open 🤗
MiniPlay will be closed during January and first of all, there’s nothing to worry about. I'm fine 😁

There are a few reasons behind this pause:

We’re putting our family home up for sale, and I want to give myself the time and headspace to get organised properly. I know that when the right house comes along, future-me will be very grateful for putting things in place now.

It’s also winter. Many of you know I bring everything to and from the halls myself each week. Without an extra pair of hands, my body could really do with a little rest.

If I’m being honest, I also need a reset. This term I’ve felt things slipping.. Not in class... in fact hiring church halls and everyone turning up has been amazing but personally I’m not getting to the gym, my to-do lists feel overwhelming, and I know I need to step back briefly to improve my work-life balance and come back feeling refreshed.

It does feel risky pressing pause on something I've worked so hard on this last few months, but I also know how lovely and supportive this community is, and I truly appreciate that more than I can say.

January also marks my third Christmas since my diagnosis, and this is the one I’m most looking forward to. It’s been a really tough couple of years, and this is the first Christmas I’ve felt like me again. I want to be truly present, slow down, and just enjoy being mum for a little while.

Thank you so much for your understanding, kindness and continued support. I absolutely love seeing you all each week and I will miss that, even if it’s only short-term 💚

Finally, I'm a true believer of closing one door to open new opportunities. So let's see what my next term brings. Hopefully we can sell our house quickly and find our forever home. 😍

Merry Christmas to all my lovely families 🎄

Who is my ideal customer?

This is such a tricky question for a small business like mine, because at MiniPlay I truly believe everyone deserves to feel seen and welcome, no matter what kind of morning you’ve had before you walk through the door.

But this question did make me pause and reflect.

When I look around the room each week, I realise I already have plenty of my ideal customers. So if I were to summarise, they look a little like this:

💕 Families who attend regularly and show their support each term
💕 Parents who love a giggle, a chat and a bit of laughter
💕 Parents (and children) who naturally help out and muck in during sessions
💕 Families who recommend MiniPlay to others without me ever having to ask
💕 Parents who don’t just see the trays, they see me and the care that goes into creating them
💕 Parents who socialise, move around the room and help others feel welcome when they notice I’m busy

If this sounds like you… thank you. You are exactly why MiniPlay feels like such a special little community 💕

CHRISTMAS PARTY week!

If anyone is crawling on the floor to get the end of the term, come join me. Tired people are welcome 😂

Show your support this week as we celebrate the Christmas holidays 💃🏻

There will be games, gingerbread bicuit decorating, hot chocs, reindeer food to take home, crafts and of course a selection of my favourite Christmas play trays. Rather than the usual sticker this week, children will have some treats to finish with.

Wednesday 10 am United Reformed Church, West Park

Friday 10 am St Chads Parish Centre

Please book tickets in advance £8 per child. Thank you 🎄

16 years ago, I taught a child. A child that has now grown up, and expecting her first baby. I share because the conversation really touched me. She's referring to a much younger version of me, a teacher who was just at the start of her career. A teacher that had just found her feet in Year 6. If anyone is new to teaching (or not) please read the following to see the impact you make is huge, we just don't ever get the chance to hear it.

"Honestly I have thought about you often and I couldn't believe it this morning when I saw your picture, I knew it was you but I needed to check. I'm not even just saying it but I really can't explain how much you helped shape me that year. Your patience, positivity and kindness towards me was some of the only genuine kindness I felt as a child. I always looked up to you and wanted to be just like you.....27 years old me currently feels like a 10 year old again.
Hearing you are proud of me has made me cry."

I was so proud to hear she is now a teacher in Dubai and about to become a mother.

Teachers, remember. What you do matters. Like really matters. So on those tough days, remember some of those little eyes looking at you trust you, rely on you and one day, might just want to be like you
