Toilet Learning: Preparing to Return to Nursery

As we prepare to return to nursery after the summer break, some children may have started toilet learning at home, while others may not have begun yet and both are completely okay.

Returning to nursery brings a change in routine and for children who have started toilet learning, it’s not unusual to have a few more accidents, need extra reassurance or appear to take a step backwards. This is common and doesn’t mean they have lost the progress they’ve made. They may simply need time to reconnect with the nursery environment and routines.

We see toilet learning as a shared responsibility between home and nursery. We want children to feel safe, respected and supported, without pressure or shame.

Our poster shares some gentle ways you can continue building familiarity and confidence at home. We’ll continue to support your child here at nursery, keeping communication open so that together we can provide consistency between home and nursery.

👖 If your child is currently toilet learning, please pack plenty of spare clothes, including bottoms, tops, underwear and socks. Accidents are a completely normal part of the process and having spares means we can keep things calm and comfortable.

⭐ We also have lots of sticker chart designs available if you’d like one to use at home. Just ask a member of the team and we’ll be happy to provide one.

There’s no race, no pressure and no expectation to get it perfect. We’re in this together. 💛

We just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone for your kind messages, support and offers of help following the recent vandalism at our nursery.
Your kindness has meant so much to us.

The police have now been in contact, and we’re assessing the damage. Thankfully, the saw that was taken has been found in the willow in our main nursery garden, but sadly our shed has been damaged and will need replacing. The willow structure around our fire circle has also been damaged.

We’ve added some photos of the damage so you can see the impact this has had.

If anyone is able to help by donating any of the following, we would be incredibly grateful:
🌿 Loppers
🪵 Planks of wood to repair our outdoor seating
🌱 Materials to help repair our bird hide
🪢 A cargo net
🪴 Terracotta pots
🏠 A shed

We will also look at organising some fundraising during the autumn term to help us repair and replace what has been damaged.

We know times are tough, so please don’t feel under any pressure to donate. Simply sharing this post and continuing to support our nursery means the world to us.

Thank you again for standing by us. Our nursery community is truly something special.

We are saddened to share that our Forest School area has recently been vandalised, and tools have been stolen.

This is incredibly disappointing, as our Forest School provides a valuable space for children to learn, explore and develop a love of the outdoors. We work hard to create a safe and inspiring environment, and it is upsetting to see it damaged in this way.

If anyone has seen anything suspicious or has any information that may help, please let us know or contact the local police.

Thank you for your continued support. We remain committed to restoring the area as quickly as possible so our children can continue to enjoy all that Forest School has to offer.

What a fantastic year we’ve had! Every single one of you has made me so proud. We’ve shared so many laughs and learnt so much together. You’ve taught me lots too and I will miss you all so much.
You’re all so ready for your next adventure. Some of you are off to Forest School, some are moving to a new group and one of you is heading off to big school - I know you’ll all do amazingly well.
I hope you and your families have a wonderful summer, make lots of special memories together and enjoy every moment. Have fun, stay safe and I can’t wait to hear all about your new adventures.
Good luck everyone.
Love Mrs Hanson 😊

Class of 2025/2026

It has been a pleasure to have been your child’s teacher this year. It has been wonderful to see your children flourish throughout their time at nursery.
I wish all of the children the best of luck and I hope they all enjoy their new adventure that awaits them.

Before the summer break begins, we'd like to remind all our families that you're not alone over the holidays. 💛

The long summer break can be a wonderful time to make memories together, but we also know it can bring its own challenges. If you or your family would like a little extra support, our Family Help School & Community Practitioners (Tracy and Alice) will be available throughout the summer with a range of drop-in sessions.

Please take a look at the timetable below to see what's on offer. Please Note: The Dream Acre Farm sessions link with the summer HAF activity program, for more details please follow this link: https://www.eastriding.gov.uk/children-and-families/activities-available-in-the-east-riding/holiday-activities-and-food/

Whether you'd like advice, a friendly chat, or some extra support, everyone is welcome.

We hope you all have a happy, safe, and enjoyable summer, and remember—we're here to help if you need us. 🌞💙
