With over 1200 students attending the College, co-opted governors can make the link between work and education and, with their life experience, constructively support the success of their local school. We welcome interest from every walk of life to bring different perspectives and views. We support an inclusive culture, and we welcome applications from any currently under-represented groups that are reflected in our local community.
The role of school governor is a very rewarding one and it will enable you to meet new people and to work as part of a team. You will gain new knowledge and skills and will be able to bring a valuable perspective to the work of the board. Don’t worry if you haven’t any experience, as full training is available and you will be well supported by colleagues on the governing body. Governors do not need to be parents, nor do they need to be education professionals. They just need to be individuals that have an interest in education, who want to give something back to their communities and who are keen to see future generations thrive.
The governing body's main tasks are:
o Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction at the College.
o Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff.
o Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
