This week Donna's Darlings are learning about Chinese New Year, exploring colours and making tiger crafts. Some are even having a go at using chopsticks for the first time 🥡🥠🐯
Happy new year everyone! Looking forward to a new year of learning through play 🤸‍♀️
Donna's Darlings will remember them
Another busy half term week last week; dressing up, pumpkin carving, halloween crafting and party games interspersed with trips to the park, playground and soft play
Happy halloween 2021 👻🎃🕷🕸
I do like summer, but...there is something about walking through the woods on a crisp autumnal day that brings me joy 🍂🍁 we crossed a crocodile-infested river using a bridge, climbed a few trees, found a colony of fairy houses, though none were at home and collected lots of sticks and leaves for our autumn crafting this week 😁
Bouncy castle fun at Donna's Darlings...good for ages 2 to 10 😁
After a 10 day closure due to my own child self isolating, it's been so lovely to have my little friends back. Nymans Gardens National trust was our playground and learning environment for this morning 🌳🌿☘🌺
Day 1 of the school holidays and we've been to the Horniman Museum. What a fantastic day of exploring and playing and ice creams 😊
Some of our easter and spring-related activities this week 🐰🥚🐣
*Small world play with animals on the farm; a great opportunity to name animals and make their noises
*painting easter pictures for colour learning and refining motor skills
*recognising letters and words in the world around us; The little darlings are beginning to learn some of the letter sounds, for example, 'eh, eh, eh for egg'
*making Easter cards to learn about special events that we celebrate

And that's just a fraction of their time spent here! We have also visited parks and the woods, built towers from blocks, made treats in the kitchen, read stories, sung nursery rhymes, took turns learning to share toys and help others.
Pancake themed play today. So much to do here... We can match the shapes inside the play eggs, transport flour between different containers and watch the effects of pouring and sieving, we can practise flipping pancakes in the frying pans, and try to recognise our names written on the pancakes... I have a feeling it may get messy today 😁

6 kids and Donna go to Washbrooks Farm in Hurstpierpoint 😁🐄🐖🐑🐇🐔🦃 The sun was shining, it was INSET day so we had the big kids with us, and all the children climbed, jumped, slid, and cycled their little hearts out in the adventure playground. We enjoyed a picnic lunch in the shade and let loose in the soft play. All the children we very well behaved and even enjoyed a ice lolly treat. Such a fab day out!!!

2 weeks into 2021 - where did that time go?! We have had a snowy theme here at Donna's Darlings, with small world play involving penguins and polar bears and fake snow. We've made snowman pictures and rainy day umbrellas as well as getting outside when we can.

Who doesn't love a good trip to the park?! Bonus when it is empty of other people! 😊 With all the fun to be had, its easy to forget the learning that is also happening; little leg and arm muscles are being strengthened, balance and coordination is being refined, not to mention the social skills of turn taking and developing relationships. Absolutely love mornings like this with my little darlings😁

Loved making these remembrance poppy pictures today. Littlest used hand prints and preschooler used an apple to print the poppies. Both quite effective and very good fun

This afternoon's activity was make-your-own wrap pizza. Children chose their own toppings from: ham, chicken, sweet corn, yellow pepper, pineapple, red onion, mozzarella cheese. They all ate their whole pizza saying how delicious they were 😊
