Summer is here- we’ve had some amazing activities on at AYC-Ashton Youth Club Pitsmoor Youth Club

From our women and girls’ group cycling session to an action-packed HAF Fun Day-day of sports and a lovely walk to Daisy Nook . We’ve been making memories, building confidence and having so much fun together.

We also spent time investing in our team with PYC staff training climbing day ensuring we’re always learning, growing, and providing the best experiences for our young people.

The call that Claire is always happy to get....

Can you come and help with a practice Gold DofE canoeing in Scotland next week?

Obviously the answer was Yes!

And off she went.

3 days on Loch Awe with 4 great young people from a school in Shropshire, who are also one of our long standing residential clients.

Another example of the work we do, not just in Castleton but much further afield.

Last week we held a Family Fun Day at Hollowford, where our young people and their families enjoyed a variety of activities.
From bouncing on the inflatables and tackling the obstacle courses to enjoying delicious food, taking part in games and sports, and making memories with family and friends, there was something for everyone.

We also had one group enjoy a walk around the local village, while another took on a hill walk up to Hollins Cross.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a special day and to Live Well for the funding to make it happen.

Last week we laid one of our incredible young people Umar Farooq to rest.

Umar was a kind, funny and thoughtful young man who attended our Thursday climbing sessions for over five years. We watched him grow into a fine, polite young man with ambitions to encourage more young people to get involved in the outdoors.

He excelled on our life skills programme and residential to Scotland in 2023 and was in pursuit of completing his CWI qualification. Umar was an amazing role model to our younger members and a great friend to us all.

We will miss him dearly, but we will always remember and honour him.

Please keep Umar and his family in your thoughts and prayers ❤️

Great to be working as a HAF Tameside partner and great advice in this hot weather. AYC-Ashton Youth Club

☀️ Sun Safety at Holiday Camps ☀️

As the weather warms up, we want to help keep children safe while enjoying outdoor activities at our holiday camps. 🌞

The sun is strongest between 11am and 3pm, so children will be encouraged to take regular breaks in the shade.

Parents and carers can help by making sure children:

👕 Wear suitable clothing, including t-shirts and hats
🕶️ Bring and wear sunglasses where appropriate
🧴 Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen before attending
☀️ Bring sunscreen for regular reapplication throughout the day
💧 Bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated

Don’t forget…
🧢 Slip, ☀️ Slap, 🧴 Slop!

Delighted to be delivering the Live Well Project in St. Peter's Ward, Tameside.

We have been delivering active healthy activities across the community and having discussions about healthy lifestyles. We have also been finding out what local facilities people have / feel they need to live well.
