🧠 Something as simple as stepping forward and throwing a combination is a great skill, yet you’re not rewarded for demonstrating or teaching it because people would rather see videos of people with their foot in a hoop, rolling under a noodle blindfolded with a tennis ball under their chin, a boxing glove under their elbow and a band round their ankles.

Support the teaching of real skills.

🧠 Working on getting James to sit back in his stance more whilst retaining the capacity for fluidity. Continuing to improve week in, week out. Consistency is key and James never misses a session.

There are so many different factors with sparring, and so many different schools of thought on it. But I know two things as absolute facts:

1️⃣ Your brain is definitely bot made to be rattled around inside your skull multiple times a week from impacts to the head
2️⃣ It takes a lot longer for your body to recover from hard sparring than it does from any other form of boxing training

Sparring is 100% a necessity, but it needs to be tempered, tailored and programmed properly so that it’s helping you, not hindering you in the long run.

Everybody in this modern boxing world knows that the risks from too much hard sparring are high. And often, it’s not until fight night that the effects are really seen.

What does everyone think?

🧠 There’s so many variables; age, experience, weight, level of competition, dreams/intentions, available facilities etc. but i believe there’s 5 main factors that need to be considered when training for amateur boxing.
1. Base aerobic fitness - for weight management and cardio capacity
2. Anaerobic fitness - prep for burst of high intensity output over multiple rounds
3. Technical proficiency - everything else falls short if this is neglected, boxing training comes first (always)
4. Strength and endurance - to manage physicality, performance, injury risk reduction, agility, etc.
5. Recovery - overtraining is a very real risk for young kids especially even if the repercussions aren’t felt until they reach adulthood; wear and tear is real.

🧠 Your chosen option depends on what your opponent chooses to attack with, whether you’re looking to re-engage immediately or whether you want to just escape and disengage.

🧠 Sorry for the little delay between captions and audio. Discipline beats motivation all day every day. Motivation is fleeting and can be short-lived. Discipline means you give yourself no choice but to get it done. Be disciplined and let the motivation give you an added boost when it bothers to show up.

🧠 The human condition is a funny one; it doesn’t matter how high you reach, how far you run, how well you fight, what you build or how many people you help, there’s always someone who thinks you could have done more, or better or that you got lucky. The most important thing you can do, as a person with BIG dreams, is to realise that people who achieve their big dreams ignored all the negative naysayers who told them they never could. Blind faith, that’s what you need. Match that to a relentless work ethic, a good team around you and a sponge-like willingness to learn as much as possible and you’ll go a long way!

PS. Still no AI being used - it took me 40 minutes to make this post so I hope it helps a few people at least.
