Congratulations to all the students at Honiton Community College for their outstanding results. Enjoy celebrating!

More than 70% of students achieved a grade 4 or above in Maths, with over half securing a grade 5 or higher, while over 74% achieved a grade 4 or above in English and more than 75% did so in Science. Across all subjects, half of all grades awarded were grade 5 or higher. These results reflect the hard work, determination and ambition of students, supported by dedicated staff and families throughout their educational journey.

Our Principal, Caroline Brothwood, shared her congratulations:
“Today marks an important milestone for our students, and we are delighted to celebrate the hard work and progress they have made during their time at Honiton. They should be proud of everything they have achieved and the contributions they have made to our community.

“Alongside their academic studies, this cohort has made the most of the wider experiences that are such an important part of life at Honiton and it has been a joy to see their curiosity and ambition grow.

“As they leave us to continue their studies, whether moving on to an apprenticeship, sixth form or following another pathway, we wish every one of them the very best for the future.”

Surf's Up! 🏄☀️

Our Year 10 students have had the fantastic opportunity to try surfing as part of Activities Week. For many, it was their very first time on a surfboard, but everyone managed to catch a wave!

With the sun shining and temperatures soaring, there was no better way to cool off than in the sea. It was a brilliant day filled with laughter, new experiences and plenty of fun.

It has been an absolute joy and privilege to spend the last few days with so many of our wonderful Year 7 students at Red Rock Outdoor Ltd on our Year 7 Residential.

Throughout the trip, our students have shown themselves to be kind, curious and resilient, with many trying new sports and activities for the very first time. They have made the most of the fantastic weather, enjoying kayaking, paddleboarding, surfing and splashing through the waves. They have also developed valuable outdoor survival skills, including foraging and fire lighting.

We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, courage and determination our Year 7 students have shown, embracing every opportunity and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

We are delighted to announce that we, Honiton Community College, have achieved the School Games Silver Mark Award for the 2025/26 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

We are committed to using the School Games to try and engage those young people who haven’t previously been active or represented our school and to try and ensure that all our students have a positive experience and want to try out new activities beyond school too in our community.

We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

A special thanks to the PE department for the extensive extra-curricular club provision you continue to provide, Iris Garcia (School Games Organiser) and parents/carers for supporting fixtures and picking students up on a weekly basis.
We look forward to applying once again in 2027!

🏉 Navigating the Future of PE 🏃‍♀️

On Tuesday 30th June, Mr Taylor and Mr Forsyth attended and presented at the Navigating PE, School Sport, and Physical Activity in a Changing Landscape conference at Sandy Park, Exeter.

With more than 100 delegates in attendance, the conference, led by Active Devon and PE Scholar, provided an excellent opportunity to network with colleagues and share best practice from across the region.

The keynote, delivered by Dr Liz Durden-Myers and Will Swaithes from PE Scholar, explored The Future of PE, School Sport and Physical Activity. Delegates also took part in workshops covering Ofsted and Assessment, Enrichment and Inclusion, Curriculum and Pedagogy, and PE Leadership and Culture.

We are especially proud that Honiton Community College was one of just six schools invited to present a case study, showcasing our work on Designing an Inclusive, Future-Focused Physical Education Offer Through Physical Literacy.

A fantastic opportunity to celebrate and share the innovative work taking place in our PE department.

🐝 Ted Wragg Innovation Competition 🐝

Congratulations to Year 7 students Willow, Caitlin and Phoebe, who proudly represented HCC in this year's Ted Wragg Trust Innovation Competition, accompanied by Mrs Nixon.

The team created an inspiring campaign to support bees by developing new habitats and planning a whole-school eco event to raise awareness of the importance of protecting pollinators. They demonstrated fantastic teamwork, creativity and resilience throughout the competition and were excellent ambassadors for the school.

Well done to all three students on this fantastic achievement! 🌼💛
