Ysgol Licswm

Ysgol Licswm This is the official page for Ysgol Licswm VA CiW. We pride ourselves being caring, nurturing and child centered. We are a truly a school family.

Ysgol Licswm Voluntary Aided Church in Wales Primary School is a wonderful small school in the heart of Licswm village. Being a small school means that we get to know each child and family personally. We have around 55 children in our school, split into three classes:

The Foundation Phase class (ages 3-6)
The Year 2 and 3 class (ages 6-8)
The Year 4, 5 and 6 class (ages 8-11)

The Foundation Pha

se class comprises of:

Early Entitlement- Age 3, who can start four mornings a week, Monday - Thursday, 8:55-11:25, the term after their 3rd birthday. Nursery- Ages 3-4, who are in school 5 mornings a week, 8:55-11:25. Reception- Ages 4-5
Year 1- Ages 5-6

Children from Reception upwards are in school full time. School starts for all children at 8:55. Foundation Phase children finish school at 3:10 and children in Years 2-6 finish at 3:15. The school is part of the Bryniau Clwyd Federation which means that we are federated with another small school in the area, Ysgol yr Esgob in Caerwys. The federation has many benefits including:

Sharing a headteacher across the two schools
Sharing one governing body
Teachers across the two schools sharing ideas and planning for topics, all staff work very closely together
Shared trips and residential trips
Pupils being a part of a wider community and getting to know children from another small school

We are also a Church in Wales school which means that we uphold and share a church ethos within the school and the community. One of our most valued points is that we are a small school in a rural location which is in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Small schools are special and unique in many ways including:

Small class sizes
We can offer a very personalised education
We value the fact that we know each child and family very well, and in turn each child and family know each staff member throughout the school. We offer a nurturing, caring and supportive environment
We care about each individual
We have lots of outdoor space including a large field, a woodland area, a pond, a wildlife garden which includes seating circles, and a large area with outdoor provision for foundation phase. We also have a breakfast club which starts each morning from 8:00 and an after school club, named LAFS, which runs until 6:00 each evening. Early Entitlement and nursery children can also access wrap around care with establishments such as Clwb Bwthyn Bach and The Wendy House who both offer pick up from Ysgol Licswm at 11:25 each day. If you would like to see for yourself how truly unique and special our school is then you can head over to our Twitter page which is regularly updated with photographs of what the children have been up to. You can also get in contact and arrange a visit to our lovely school, either by sending us an email: [email protected] or by phone: 01352 780455

We look forward to welcoming you and your child/ children

Please see the poster for our Summer Fair! It will take place straight after Sports Day.
As part of their entrepreneurship studies, pupils in Years 3–6 will be designing and running their own stalls and games at the fair. Please bring change to take part.
We would be very grateful for your support in encouraging them—please do bring along some small change so you can take part in and enjoy what they have created.
This year, we’re planning to run a second-hand toy stall. If you have any toys in good condition, with all pieces intact, we would be very grateful for any donations. Please bring them to Ms Rowe in the office. This is reliant on donations, so maybe subject to change.
We’ll also be holding a raffle. I have setup a payment request on School Gateway if you’d like to purchase tickets in advance. Tickets are £1 each, and I’ll make sure they’re given to you on the day so none go missing 🙃 Of course, tickets will also be available to buy on the day.
We already have some great prizes lined up, including:
A £50 Crown Lixwm food voucher - kindly donated by Tony
3 x 2 child entry Infunity vouchers - kindly donated by Ellen at Infunity Mold
A membership voucher for Theatr Clwyd, which offers discounted theatre and cinema tickets, and more - kindly donated by Theatr Clwyd
£10 food & drinks voucher for Lovelies Delights in Mold - kindly donated by Beckie Taylor - the proprietor
£10 Mold bookshop voucher - kindly donated by Caroline the owner
***I’ve reached out to other businesses as well, so we’re hoping to add even more prizes soon.***

LAFS will be holding their 'Trash or Treasure' stall
Ice Cream Bobby will be coming
There will also be;
Guess the amount of sweets in the jar - closest to the amount wins them - 50p per entry
Guess the lock code to win the teddy inside the cage - 50p per entry
Soak the Teacher at 4pm - volunteer (victim) to be confirmed closer to the time!! Big thanks to them for being a very good sport!!
Children only event. 50p a sponge or 3 for a £1 😁

We’ll also be running a refreshment stall. If you’re able to help, we would really appreciate a few parent volunteers to run it.
Finally, if you’re happy to donate cakes or biscuits on the morning of the event, that would be a huge help so we have plenty of treats to sell.
Thank you so much for your support—we’re looking forward to a fantastic afternoon!

♻️ NEW COMMUNITY RECYCLING COLLECTION CONTAINER ♻️

We’re excited to launch a brand-new recycling collection container for our community!

The container will collect reusable and recyclable items to be used here in the UK — helping reduce waste, support sustainability, and raise money for our school at the same time.

How it works

Every item collected earns the school a commission.
So the more the community donates, the more funding we raise for school projects, equipment, and activities.

Please donate your:
Clothing
Shoes
Bags
Textiles

Why donate?

✅ Support local UK recycling
✅ Reduce landfill waste
✅ Help raise funds for the school
✅ Easy way to give unwanted items a second life

Every bag makes a difference — thank you for supporting our school and community!

📍 Collection Container Location: Capel Y Berthen overflow car park
📅 Available From: 8th May 2026

A huge thanks also goes to the Chapel for once again letting us locate the container on their land. Thank you so much x

Our topic in years 3-6 in the Summer Term will be based on Halkyn Mountain and exploring our ‘cynefin,’ our home. We will be exploring the history of the mountain and looking at the history of the area, including the significance of mining within the area, how Licswm came to be, the wildlife on the mountain including the animals, flora and fauna, biodiversity and ecosystems, the significance of the area, the pilgrimage routes and religious significance, and local art and artists within the area. If anybody feels that they could support with any area of this topic, provide information, photographs or memories, or come into school and show or discuss your work or knowledge with the children, we would be very grateful.
