From September I will be offering a set of expectant and early parenthood workshops with The Nest Holmfirth. These are standalone workshops focusing in on one aspect of the parenting journey running across twelve weeks.
I thought it might be helpful to introduce who the workshops are for and the difference between them and the longer form antenatal courses I do at The Nest Holmfirth.
The workshops are perfect if you want focused support on a single topic. They’re ideal for first‑time parents, returning parents, or anyone who wants to revisit an aspect of pregnancy, birth, or early parenthood with fresh eyes. You can dip in and out as life allows. They’re flexible, accessible, and designed to meet you exactly where you are.
My antenatal courses are different in feel and purpose. They run over six weeks with the same group of parents, which allows for layered learning and deeper conversations. Each week builds on the last. You get time to settle, time to ask questions, and time to grow confidence in your own way of thinking. These courses also create something workshops cannot: a small community of parents who walk into early parenthood together. Many of my groups stay connected long after the course ends.
There is some overlap in content, because the foundations of pregnancy and early parenthood matter no matter how you access them. But the experience is different. Workshops give you quick, focused support. Courses give you depth, continuity, and a network.
Both are valuable. Both are designed with care. And both are here to support you in the way that feels right for your stage, your needs, and your life.
If you’re unsure which option fits you best, you’re always welcome to reach out or book a Discovery Call so we can talk it through.

One of the best things about running courses from The Nest Holmfirth is that it's a space already used for parents. It's spacious and welcoming with lots of light. Added to that there are activities throughout the week to support you once your baby arrives. To find out more drop me a message.

The question I get asked most often is how can I be a good birth partner?
A good birth partner is not the person with the most knowledge. They are first and foremost the person in the room who mum trusts the most. They are advocate, friend, partner, cheerleader and rock. Whether that be your life partner, best friend or family member they are the person who you lean on when things get tough.
I will be running a How Partners Can Help Workshop later on in the year at The Nest Holmfirth for anyone who would like to find out more. Just drop me a message for more details.

I never set out to be an antenatal teacher. I had high hopes of being a geologist — happier, I thought, surrounded by rocks than messy people.
Then along came baby number one, and the whole path upended itself. Through him I learned that those “messy” people were fascinating. The transition to parenthood opened a door I didn’t even know existed.
Through the sleepless nights, of which there were many, and the early confusion of motherhood, I discovered a new version of me. That transition has been my obsession for the last 21 years.
From the moment the pregnancy test changes colour, we start to change. Our focus reorients around the life we’re growing and the future we’re discovering. The paths we thought we were treading evolve in ways we never imagined.
For me, those changes brought me here. With a lifelong love of learning and discovery, I now spend my time staying up to date with the best research around maternity care and the many transitions women face throughout their lives.
That’s why I set up Wild Hare Rising. I wanted a safe place for parents to explore what parenthood means to them and the options they have around maternity care and early parenting.
My plan for Wild Hare Rising is that it doesn’t stop when your baby turns six months or one year. It’s here for you to return to whenever life bends or transitions into something new.
I want to be there for your journey, whether that’s an antenatal course, Friday Flock, or support in the months and years beyond.

When I first completed my training 17 years ago, we taught women specific positions for birth. Recent research shows something far more powerful: when women are supported and encouraged to listen to their bodies, they naturally find the positions that work for them and their babies. No matter what position your baby is in, you will instinctively find the right place for you.
That’s why I focus on empowerment instead of positioning — listening to your instincts instead of focusing on the book.

I strongly believe that antenatal courses should be tailored to the needs and wants of the group. That means I listen to the group and tailor the course around your needs. Each course in unique like each pregnancy, birth and parental experience is unique.
There is no right way to birth a baby and as a result there is no fixed course that can meet your needs. That's why I talk to before the course begins and tailor my support to you.
