Barnaby's Day Nursery offers a unique outdoor approach to learning and provides the highest quality of care in a safe, stimulating and homely environment.

We are a family run day nursery and pre-school, occupying a beautifully restored barn on our family farm based on Sheffield Road, New Mill, Holmfirth. We offer full and part time education/ care for children from birth to 5years, including 2 and 3 year old FEEC (Free Early Education and Care). Here at Barnaby's we offer fantastic indoor and outdoor environments with resources that are age appropriate to support children’s learning and development. We also provide other activities such as Forest school, French Lessons, Tennis Lessons and Singing Lessons at no extra cost.

🚀🌎 Planet pictures 🌎🚀

The boys and girls in pre-school absolutely loved our space-themed activity! 🌟

We talked about the different planets in our solar system and used flashcards to help us put them in the correct order. 🪐✨

There were lots of lovely conversations as we explored the planets — from their different sizes, colours and features, to sharing which planet was their favourite! 💫

It was wonderful to see the children using their curiosity, developing their knowledge and sharing their ideas with one another. ❤️

🌍🪐 I wonder where our space adventures will take us next! 🚀✨

👽✨ Out of this world creativity in Pre-School! ✨👽

Our little artists have been busy creating their very own handprint aliens! 🖐️💙💜💚

Using their handprints as the starting point, the children transformed them into some wonderfully wacky aliens, adding googly eyes, colourful paint, fluffy pom-poms, sparkly stars and lots of imagination. 🌟👀

We absolutely love seeing each child’s unique creation and the wonderful ideas behind their artwork. 💕 Their aliens are certainly out of this world! 🚀🪐

🎨 Fine Motor Fun! 🖌️

We have been practising our fine motor skills by using cotton buds and paint to carefully follow straight, wiggly and zig-zag lines.

This fun activity promotes hand-eye coordination, pencil control, concentration, precision and finger strength — all important skills for developing confidence with early writing and everyday tasks. ✍️💪✨

Learning through play makes practising these skills fun and engaging! 🌈

🌍✨ Our little pre-school astronauts have been busy creating their very own planets! 🪐🎨

Our boys and girls have been getting creative, exploring colour, texture and their imaginations as they designed and painted their own amazing planets. 🌈👩‍🚀👨‍🚀

But there’s something extra special about these planets… they LIGHT UP! 💡✨

It has been wonderful watching the children take such pride in their creations and seeing their faces light up when their planets came to life. 🥰🚀🌟🪐

🚀🌙 We’ve been Space Mad in the Pre-Schoo Room!! 🌙🚀

Our little astronauts have had so much fun exploring the wonders of space! 👩‍🚀👨‍🚀✨

They have enjoyed learning the names of all the planets, playing space-themed games and reading lots of exciting space stories. 🪐📚

We’ve also created our very own space station in the role-play area, where imaginations have been going into orbit! 🌎🚀 And, of course, we couldn’t forget our very own little space rocket, where the children can climb inside and blast off on their own adventures! 🚀⭐️

We’ve had lots of fun learning, exploring and using our imaginations along the way. 🌟

📚 School Admissions – Important Information for Parents

Leaflets are being handed out in pre-school with important information about applying for your child’s school place.

The leaflet includes helpful reminders to:
⭐ Apply online and on time
⭐ Name three school preferences
⭐ Include your catchment school

Please take a look at the information and make sure you apply within the deadline.

Today is the first solar eclipse since 1999!
So in baby room today we have been looking at pictures and talking about the eclipse. This inspired us to enhance this learning by creating our own solar ellipse paintings. The children thoroughly enjoyed painting the black card white then taking the blue circle off to reveal a back circle silhouette underneath.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our pre-school graduation evening 🎓.
It was such a fabulous evening, and it was wonderful to come together and celebrate the children’s time here at Barnaby’s.

We wish each and every one of you the very best on your next adventure. We will miss you all and hope you take with you many happy memories of your time at Barnaby’s. 💙
