Face in the tree! A slightly lopsided one, but nevertheless a face in the tree. Spotted on my walk the other day. Can you see it?

FREE meet & greet session when you register for my online groups!
🧤meet me, Isobel, so you feel more comfortable when the sessions start
🧤make sure our devices work and we have a connection so we’re ready to go (eliminate tech teething problems)
🧤I teach your child how to write on the screen and use the Zoom tools so you’re fully ready for the first session
This of course means I need to set aside time for your meet & greet in my schedule. DON’T leave it too late to register - you risk the groups being full AND losing out on the meet & greet.
😊 Register by sending an email to [email protected]
😊 sessions are bookable as a block (like swimming lessons) and work out at £7 each
😊 priority booking offered to existing members for future blocks
Sessions are run by me, a qualified and experienced teacher (not just someone who likes maths). I LOVE teaching maths and I LOVE fun. Don’t expect these sessions to be dull!
Enhanced DBS and insured.

Doesn’t this look good? Hands-on animal experience and learning with some very interesting creatures. Loulabelle’s Jungle does lots of visits/groups in the Huddersfield and Mirfield area (West Yorkshire). There are many more beyond the ones listed here, so have a look through their page or send them a message to find out if they’ll be near you.
I’m pretty sure they’re coming to the North of England Centre for Music and Arts in Marsden in September but I can’t remember the date! Perhaps someone can confirm that for me?

A few days away even further north than where I live (Huddersfield in West Yorkshire), but can you guess where I was?

For my home ed families and followers, I’m sharing this page, Home Education Science. Despite being a maths person, I get enquiries about Science too and I like to help if I can. This particular group appeals to me because it’s very hands-on, just like my maths! They do in-person sessions near Leeds, and online groups too for wherever you’re based. Looks like good fun!

Whoooo, well I have felt a little popular today. Had a lot of new enquires. Normally a sign that you have all been sharing information about the sessions. Thanks so much everyone # #

Beautiful blackberries, but this means autumn’s coming and it’s nearly back to school time. I’m Isobel and I run 3 online maths clubs (as well as face to face maths tutoring). Believe me, as soon as September comes the enquiries start flooding in. Don’t wait and then find there are no spaces available. If your child is going under the radar at school or is finding maths a bit of a struggle, ACT NOW to give them some help. Even just having the place booked can lift some of the anxiety because and your child both know that help is on the way.
Have a look at the poster. Message or email me for a chat. Have a good look at the photos and reviews on the Ping Tutoring page. You’ll be very glad you did.

I love this site Good Questions to Ask in Math Class. It’s definitely worth a look and a follow if you like discussion-rich puzzles and challenges, and it provides them for different age ranges.
For those children who struggle to explain their thinking, their reasoning, their processes etc, discussion-rich activities can provide an excellent vehicle for developing their skills.
I like this chocolate challenge. I think I need to try this one myself and see where it takes me. Maybe I’ll have to try it several times, just to be sure 😁 😋

🍫 Break the Chocolate!
Radha has a big chocolate bar made up of smaller pieces arranged in rows and columns.
She can break the bar only along the lines between the pieces.
A 2 × 2 chocolate bar needs 3 breaks to separate it into 4 individual pieces.
Now the challenge:
🍫 How many breaks are needed to separate an 8 × 3 chocolate bar into 24 individual pieces?
🤔 Don’t be fooled by the rows and columns!
💡 Think about what happens to the number of pieces after each break.
Can you solve it without drawing all 24 pieces?
💬 Share your answer and your reasoning in the comments!
📌 A great puzzle for mathematical reasoning, problem solving, and classroom discussion.
Follow Good Questions to Ask in Math Class for more puzzles that make students think!

DON’T LEAVE IT TOO LATE!
My September maths clubs are filling up nicely, and as we get nearer to the end of the holidays the enquiries usually come in thick and fast.
These clubs are incredible value at £7 per session (bookable as a half termly block, like swimming lessons). The usual cost of tutoring in this area from a QUALIFIED and EXPERIENCED teacher is upwards of £35 per session.
🧤small groups (up to 8 learners)
🧤free meet & greet session
🧤online
🧤planned to include games and interactive tasks
🧤fun AND successful
Have a look at the Ping Tutoring page to see EXCELLENT reviews and photos.
The best feedback I have is that families keep re-booking. Once they’ve tried it, they don’t delay in rebooking, making sure their place is secure for the next block of lessons.
All info is on the poster. Email or message me for a chat about it if you’d like to ask anything. There are 3 groups: Y5, Y6 and a times tables club (which is almost full).

Today, I shall be foraging in my green bin for a suitable box to make a pinhole camera!
If anyone’s made one before, is there a recommended size?
The last time I made one, high schools had recently been invented and there wasn’t an eclipse happening! 😎
Three ways to watch the solar eclipse safely without glasses
With some shops running out of stock, it may be too late to buy eclipse glasses - but you can still safely watch the spectacle using some household items.
