The school is a designated academy, a Specialist Science College and a designated Training School which has also been accredited with both Sportsmark and Artsmark awards. The school consistently performs well in academic performance League Tables, invariably exceeding both National and Local Education Authority averages. The school was originally founded in 1978 as a purpose-built 11-18 comprehens

ive and sixth form. In total, the school community contains just over 1200 students whose ages range from 11 to 18 years. Approximately 170 of these are members of the sixth form, and there are about 85 members of teaching staff. The lower school is divided into five year groups, each containing about 200 students, whilst the Sixth Form is divided into two year groups of about 75 students each. The proportion of pupils with special educational needs is well below average, while the proportion of pupils with statements is average[citation needed]. Pupils with the highest levels of need mostly have specific learning difficulties (dyslexia), emotional and behavioural difficulties, or moderate learning difficulties. About two per cent of the pupils have minority ethnic backgrounds. The proportion of the pupils who are eligible for a free school meal is well below the national average and the socio-economic census data for local wards is very favourable. The school's catchment area is large, and approximately half its students live in the surrounding towns and villages of Allostock, Brereton, Byley, Chelford, Cranage, Goostrey, Lower Peover, Middlewich, Plumley, Smallwood, Holmes Chapel and Wincham. Consequently, many students travel to school on private buses, provided by either Cheshire County Council or the school itself. The majority of those who live in Holmes Chapel walk, due to the school's position reasonabely near the centre of the Village, and about 10 or 15 students cycle. The local area is rural and socially mixed, although generally affluent.

Job Vacancy - Food Technician

We are looking to recruit a proactive individual to join our Food department in the Design and Technology Faculty, in the role of part time Technician.

The successful candidate will help set up lessons by setting out equipment and cleaning and tidying up after practical sessions. They will be required to support the teaching staff in preparation of ingredients and resources and with general maintenance of the department.

The working pattern for the role is 8.30-11.30, Monday to Friday during term time.

Celebrating the Class of 2026

GCSE results day at Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School and Sixth Form

“Today is the biggest day of the summer for all of our students who sat their national exams just a few months ago. The day when each of them plot their next steps in their learning journey.

It is always a very emotional day not just for the students but for their families and of course for us as teachers. These students have been with us for the past five years and we care very much for each and every one of them. I’m personally looking forward to welcoming them all into school today.

Staff will be on hand to help and guide students to make their decisions about what next and we hope that a large number of them will sign up to our sixth form college where we offer a wide range of academic A levels alongside vocational qualifications. Our college results last week clearly demonstrated a really strong set of outcomes for students who are able to access a very successful blended curriculum offer as a pathway to university, apprenticeship or employment.

Our Sixth Form College will be holding sign up days from tomorrow and we hope that as many students as possible will come and enroll to continue their learning journeys with us. Once the excitement of today settles down we will be working with students on a one to one basis to make sure that they can access the best possible pathway for them.

So congratulations to the class of 2026. We are immensely proud of every single one of you”

Holmes Chapel Sixth Form College Results day 2026

With results now in, it has been a day of celebration at Holmes Chapel Sixth Form where over 90% of students were able to celebrate being able to quickly confirm the next steps on their learning journeys following this morning’s Key Stage 5 results.

Executive Headteacher, Nigel Bielby commented:

“This morning has been a really emotional one as you can imagine. These students have worked very hard to get to today and to nail down their next moves. Clearly, some students have had to change or adjust their plans but the most important thing is the certainty that they now have in plotting their future. We wish each and every one of them massive success for the future, they will always be part of our school community”
