Today our Pre-school children took part in a planting activity. 🌱
The children were given the opportunity to choose their own plant pots and what seed/herb they would like to plant; then used spades to fill their pots with soil.
Whilst planting we came across a snail, which led us to speak about the different insects we could find in soil, and how we must take care of living creatures. 🐛🐞
After we had filled our pots with soil, the children were asked “what do we do next with our pots?”
The children suggested making a hole in the soil for the seeds to go in. Basil is the seed we all decided to plant, so we all smelt the basil seeds and spoke about what we could smell. “It smells like flowers” one of our pre-schoolers said. 🌷🙌
We extended this by discussing what we can use our basil for in cooking, we came up with some yummy ideas such as making pasta and pesto!
All children took turns in then watering their seeds to help them grow. Which then finally led us on to discuss the weather and what our seeds need to grow, we spoke about the weather today in which some children said, “it’s a little chilly but the sun is out”☀
The Pre-school children had a great morning planting our seeds and we look forward to watching them grow! What’s your favourite flower?
