Dear Parents and Carers,
As Bonfire Night approaches, we want to remind you of the importance of keeping children safe around fireworks and in public places.
While organised events can be great fun, there have sadly been recent incidents in Birmingham where fireworks were used dangerously. This led to serious risks for the public and police, and some young people were arrested.
To help keep everyone safe, especially our children, we ask that you:
Talk to your child about the dangers of fireworks
Know where they are and who they’re with, especially in the evenings
Encourage them to attend organised events rather than unsupervised gatherings
Report any concerns about unsafe or antisocial behaviour to the police
Police will be using extra powers to help keep the city safe, including stopping and searching people where needed. You can read more safety advice on West Midlands Police website, where you can also find details of how to share information with us – including how to do so anonymously.
Thank you for helping to protect our community and make Bonfire Night safe and enjoyable for all.
