My husband and I offer Ofsted Registered flexible childcare services, specialising in before and after school care for Strathmore school and Wilshere Dacre

My name is Laura Wood and I am 47 years old. I am a mother of 2 beautiful girls aged nearly 15 and the other 11, happily married to Jeremy for 16 years and we live in a very happy family environment. Jeremy and I have both taken, and passed our CYPOP5 childminding, along with Paediatric First Aid Training. We are both CRB checked and we have successfully registered with Ofsted as childminders. Just amazing news for Hattie and her family ...... if you haven’t seen this already, have a read 😘😘😘 lovely news for the the loveliest family # #

No more chemo 🎉🎉🎉

Hattie had an appointment at Addenbrookes today and the decision was made to stop chemo now and not do the last 2 rounds.

Hattie has damage to her bowel caused by the Proton Therapy. Over the last several months she has also been suffering with an infection which has made her feel quite poorly. That combined with a low immune system due to the chemo, has meant that her body hasn't been able to try to repair itself and she has been feeling pretty poorly and suffering quite a lot.

A decision needed to be made as to whether or not 2 more rounds of chemo would be of any benefit at this point. Continuing chemo would mean she would be at a great risk of the infection recurring and subsequently causing further irreversible damage to her bowel. Her consultant strongly feels that there is no indication that any more chemo is needed and that he was always being over cautious by choosing the 12 months maintenance instead of 6. We saw her tumour on the scan and he explained all indications are that it is calcified. He strongly advised stopping chemo.

So what does this mean????

Hattie isn't "cured" yet. With many cancers, the absence of a relapse within 5 years is considered cured. With a rhabdomyosarcoma it is 10 years. Hattie will have scans and appointments and follow ups until shes at least an adult.

There are terms such as 'remission' and 'No Evidence of Disease (NED)' but we were told these are not particularly helpful in our situation.

We discussed that Hattie has such a long way still to go. She is still reliant on her NG tube for feed and fluids 24 hours a day. She still has her Hickman Line. She still has pain and tiredness and the damage to her bowel. She needs to give her body time to recover from the last 18 months. But we are feeling hopeful that things will just keep getting better from now on.

Towards the end of the appointnent Hattie asked the consultant what it all meant......

"Have I still got cancer??"

The answer was the best thing I've ever heard

"You HAD cancer. You don't have cancer now" ❤

And so the weirdest day has come ...... we are closed until further notice, apart from the few kids that we are allowed to look after from next week. A sad few days for us and many other lovely childminders 😘😘 hopefully we will all still be up and running when life goes back to normal..... we made a life choice 8 yrs ago to look after kids, as we are big kids still and it would mean we would still be able to be with our kids, and today we have been forced to shut by this government and this horrible virus. See you in the other side everyone 😘 stay safe and well and hopefully see u all soon # #
