New Parent and Toddler group running from Preston Village Pre School, Hitchin on Thursday mornings. First session this Thursday 6th November.

Following children’s interests.

At Teddybears Pre-school Hitchin we listen to, and observe children’s interactions. This week we adapted our environment to create a Wildlife Park to support a little one’s interest in all things animals.
We provided lots of open ended resources to allow the children to develop their own ideas and imagination. We included real life photographs to support their Understanding of The World.

We are based in St Michael’s Community Centre, St Michael’s Road, Hitchin.
We provide care and education for children aged 2 to 5 years old between the hours of;
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 8am to 2pm
Thursday,Friday 8am to 1.30pm

Some of our children have shown a keen interest in mini beasts. This has developed from bug hunts in the garden to looking at life cycles.
This invitation to play was well received and brought with it the introduction of early maths by categorising and sorting the insects, comparing size and habitats and counting how many legs they had!
In addition it also supports early literacy skills by using the tweezers to strength our hand and finger muscles.

We have welcomed lots of new children into our preschool family over the past few weeks. To help them settle and feel confident in their new surroundings we have been using their known interests and cultural backgrounds to provide provocations as an invitation to play.
We created a Chinese take away in the role play area. This followed on from an adult and child engaging in sand play where they were making chicken noodle soup. The child’s curiosity peaked so we extended this by providing the opportunity for them to make noodle soup from wool, practice our early writing by designing menus and engage with their peers in the take away restaurant.
This experience lead to discussions about food from around the world, foods we like (& don’t like) and making healthy choices.

A wealth of knowledge and learning provided which all stemmed from an adult observing a child playing in the sand!
