Teaching how to summarise! Why do we need to do this?

1. It supports critical thinking - what is the best summary and why?
2. It supports active reading; learners must engage with the text in order to summarise chunks of it
3. It supports executive function - selecting, organising and prioritising information
4. It teaches the skill of note taking. And why do we always assume that students just know now to do this?

Teaching summary is a quick win for all learners, including those with dyslexia, ADHD, autism, DLD, dyspraxia and Spld Maths.

Beyond labels: What to do about dyslexia in schools (and what to stop doing)

In the light of the SEND reforms proposals, it seems timely to run a course about high quality teaching in response to needs, not labels. But this does not mean we should ignore dyslexia! In this course we'll dig deeper than the label and consider the needs. We'll look at how to support and teach learners with dyslexic type needs really, really well in primary and secondary school. In fact, this is just good teaching for all your learners. And you'll get a pack of resources too.

This course is £49 for both webinars, including lifetime access to the recording and resources.

New blog post!

Dyslexia in a suitcase: what has dyslexia got to do with a play mobile treehouse, tightrope, train, gold star, white paper, cornet and scissors?

Slightly more light-hearted than my previous blog about the SEND reforms, but nevertheless reflective about the past, present and future in terms of supporting learners with dyslexia and literacy needs.
