Classes update: Thank you for being involved in what I do. I really appreciate it! I need to let you know that sadly, I won't be able to run my classes in November 'La famille - Part 2' due to changes in personal circumstances.

For those who know me personally: we are all ok, but it has become a challenge for me to continue to teach at least in the short term.

After my current set of classes finishes I'll be temporarily closing my page to give me a break, but before I'll do, I'll post some information on how to stay in touch if you would like to.

I will keep my Facebook group open for those of you who would like to access the previous classes I ran through lockdown, and when I get chance I'll tidy it up a little to make it easier to find classes by topic.

Thank you again for sticking with me, bearing with me, and learning French with me!

Making things is a key element to helping learn language: for me, for my own children, and for the children I work with. I'll be making a mini banjo out of these materials in my pre-recorded class this week. We'll be pretending that we are trying to wake up Frère Jacques from his sleep. Let me know if you'd like to join us. You'd be very welcome!

As many of you know, I home educate my two youngest children. One of our activities is to study a nature curriculum, called Exploring Nature with Children (Raising Little Shoots Nature Study), and today's activity was to look for signs of autumn. I thought you might enjoy having a go at doing a similar activity at home, so here are some of the things that we looked for or listened for:

- le bruit du vent (the sound of the wind)
- une grappe de baies (a cluster of berries)
- quelque chose de doux (something soft)
- des oiseaux migrateurs (migrating birds)
- une petite bête (a bug)
- une feuille dorée (a gold coloured leaf)
- une feuille rouge (a red leaf)
- une toile d'araignée (a spider's web)
- quelque chose d'humide (something wet)
- une aiguille de pin (a pine needle*)

I have found that nature walks are a fantastic way to introduce language to children because you often see the same thing more than once so that they learn the words through repetition. My 4 year-old's favourite word at the moment is 'libellule' (dragonfly).

There isn't any need to know lots of French words in advance. I only knew the names of a few insects, plants etc. until recently, and I take my phone with me and look up the ones I don't know. The repetition works for us as adults too!!!

Happy searching!

* I actually asked my children to find 'une feuille d'un sapin ou d'un pin', which means 'a leaf from a fir tree or a pine tree', so that they weren't pre-warned to look for a pine needle, and realised that the leaves were different.

So, so, so true 😂

This Thursday we are back to our Fun French Thursdays at 10 a.m. and we will be learning about Family this week.

I'll be using a mum and dad puppet, and a baby doll, so if you have these items, please come along with them - but no worries if you haven't - you can join in without them. Head over to Children's French Classes Group to join us this Thursday live.
