Did your child not get the 11 Plus result or grammar-school place they were hoping for?

That doesn’t necessarily mean the opportunity has ended.

Depending on the grammar schools and their admissions arrangements, some pupils may have another opportunity through a Late Transfer Test, commonly referred to as a 12 Plus or 13 Plus exam.

Reading is an important part of a child’s education, and it should be encouraged from an early age.

Regular reading can help children develop their vocabulary, spelling, comprehension and wider language skills.

It can also introduce them to new ideas, characters and different ways of thinking.

Parents can support reading by making time to read with their children, listening to them read aloud and encouraging them to visit the library. The aim is to make reading a regular and enjoyable part of their routine.

A child’s learning environment matters.

The night before the 11 Plus exam should be about staying calm, not cramming until midnight.

In this video, Sir Adnan Khan shares some simple tips to help parents and children approach exam day with a calmer mindset.
Finish revision early and avoid working late into the night. Have a relaxed family dinner, talk to your child and help ease any nerves.

On the morning of the exam, give your child a healthy breakfast so they are ready for the day.

And once the 11 Plus exam is finished, let it go. Whether the paper felt hard or easy, the exam is done.
