So you've got your job post graduate/apprenticeship - how do you keep it?
With the NEET crisis becoming more prevalent each day, this BBC article seems like an easter egg for how our young people can approach the world of work to ensure they will/want to stay there.

Our takeaway? Don't be afraid to 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐮𝐭 and 𝐚𝐬𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩. We all know that, for the newer generations, the world of work is becoming increasingly saturated and competitive, which may make this next step look seriously daunting. But we don't mention one very simple thing enough:

You don't need to know everything straight away!

And this applies to everyone. Looking for a new role, going into work full time, or at college thinking about the future? If you go in open minded, confident, and ready to learn, they will be eager to have you 👊 .

According to new data, brand new SEND reforms in schools face a big threat in the form of a key staff shortage.

The government's new 'experts at hand' scheme - making the SEND system more mainstream - required reports from councils to be submitted in June. Now councils are just waiting for approval before publishing them for the public to see.

However, data shows that at least 28 councils will cite workforce challenges being the main reason plans aren't able to go ahead, and that the problems with the school system itself may curb plans for inclusion.

Whilst reforms on such large scales are always bound to face initial backlash and issues, it seems impossible for the education sphere to accommodate the sheer scale of these plans. However, we are in the early days of reform, so there is still plenty of room to make adjustments for this to really work 🤝.

🚨 According to yesterday's report by the Children's Commissioner, the number of young NEETs is 𝐝𝐨𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐞 the official figures.

On the 9th of September, it was revealed that 𝟒𝟐,𝟎𝟎𝟎 16-17 year olds enrolled in college attend less than half the time. This has given way to the label 'the hidden NEETs' - very much in the NEET category, yet very much outside the statistics.

Considering this figure alongside the 46,520 already known to be NEETs, it is clear that this crisis is on a much bigger scale, and part of a much wider problem.

This has come to light because of the commissioner's (Dame Rachel de Souza) spotlight on Further Education settings. Using her statutory powers in college groups, she has put together the first ever comprehensive set of attendance data for these FE settings, as unlike schools, they do not have to report to the DfE.

This data could be monumental in giving us a deeper understanding of the crisis, and thus a much better handle on how to solve it across its levels.

Joe Rowntree has been smashing it with University of Warwick! 👊
A couple of weeks ago, Joe and Matthew Smith joined Warwick for their annual Scholars Day programme. Here, they delivered workshops giving students the confidence and skills to revise efficiently, understand what works best for them, and how to break through barriers - both literally and physically 🪵!

Thank you to Warwick for having us, and we hope your students continue to smash their studies, one marginal gain at a time.

We are very proud of what we achieved last year and how our projects went. To those who worked with us, thank you for choosing MADE. It means a lot that we get to share our experience, knowledge and insight with you, and we do not that opportunity for granted.

However, there is still a lot to do this year! With NEETs reaching an all time high and another year of exams looming ahead, we hope you will continue to join us on this journey, and be the Agents of Change to make that impact👊.

Worried about what September may bring you? Don't panic! Let's focus on the things you can look forward to, no matter what your next step is...

🏫 Sixth Form/College - being back with all your old friends, either in an old or new environment, and potentially making more friends with likeminded, interesting people just like you!
💼 Work/Apprenticeship - getting to learn on-the-go in a field you're interested in, gaining a bunch of transferable skills, and earning whilst you do it!
🎓 University - being in the same boat with loads of other students who want to do well, are ready to have fun, and make their friends for life!
🌍 Gap Year - a chance to collect your thoughts, relieve the pressure, and jump at opportunities you'd never have otherwise!

Whatever path you're going down come September, it will be the right one. None of these are better or worse than another, because it is all about 𝐲𝐨𝐮.

On Thursday, Education Secretary Lucy Powell told BBC Breakfast that she was pledging to end the "treadmill of failure" that is resits for young people.

GCSE Results day revealed that fewer of those who were taking resits passed compared to last year, with this already being a small margin.

Powell says that, under proposed changes, those who receive a grade 2 or under will be steered towards stepping-stone qualifications which will demonstrate their numeracy and literacy skills to employers and colleges, known as 'Level 1s'.

This, combined with the PM's announcement last month for changes to the education system, shows the government's commitment to changing the course of education to be a much more equal playing field.

Burnham says that he wants the country to value "the hard hat as much as the graduation cap", and this is definitely a big step towards making that happen 👊 .
