The government have released a national strategy for autistic individuals, pledging £600,000 to train staff in educational settings 👏

They have identified that early support is crucial to prevent escalation of needs and to ensure children and young people reach their potential.

The students had fun today using the magnetic and sandpaper letters to learn some new spelling rules.

Teaching children with dyslexia the rules of language has been proven to support their spelling. These children are now confident choosing whether to use a “ck” or “k” 👊

“Early identification and intervention can significantly reduce the need for more costly interventions at a later stage” (SEN and disability code of practice).

It has been shown that waiting for a child to ‘catch up’ is not effective. When intervention is provided early, children are able to make better (and faster) progress.

Young girls building each other up during an emotional resilience group.

This girl went on to write a long list of things she likes about herself, three weeks after telling me she hated herself.

Education is about more than maths and English. We need more of this for children to develop good self esteem and reduce issues later in life

Today’s creation in Block Club 🧱

We use Lego® based therapy with a range of children to enhance social communication and language skills.

Children work in groups, taking on different roles in the construction process. The engineer gives instructions on the pieces required and how to fit them together, the supplier finds the correct pieces and the builder puts the model together.

After just a few sessions, these children are asking each other questions to clarify instructions and encouraging each other with the build. What fantastic progress. It helps that the adults enjoy it too!

This girl was unable to recognise or write individual sounds a few weeks ago. Breaking the words down and focusing on how sounds go together has enabled her to read and spell whole words correctly. We are so proud of your progress.
