The school holidays have officially begun… which means I’m already planning ahead for the new academic year!

I currently have availability for small group sessions, paired lessons, and 1:1 tutoring. Sessions can be delivered online or face‑to‑face, depending on locality and scheduling.

Group sessions rotate across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, with options tailored to Foundation, Higher, or Triple Science pathways. Paired and 1:1 lessons can focus on all three sciences or be customised to one or two subjects, depending on each student’s needs.

Well, today marked the last weekly session of my first GCSE Science Group. I started with 4 students back in September with a 5th student joining us in January.

We have rotated through the three sciences covering all units and required practicals. In each session we covered the key concepts. I used questioning to identify knowledge gaps and misconceptions before moving on to exam question practice.

It has been an absolute pleasure supporting these young people and watching them gain confidence as the weeks progressed. I'll be thinking of them as they approach their last few exams and looking forward to hearing from them in August. Thanks so much for my beautiful flowers, they are much appreciated. 😊

A bit of advice for Y11 students taking Higher and Separate Sciences.

Don't forget that the marks given on a calculation question in Physics indicates the level of work that needs to be completed in the question.

A 3 mark question could indicate that you need to convert units or rearrange an equation. 4 marks may include both skills or you may need to give your answer to a certain number of significant figures or to state the units of the answer. A 5 mark question would usually need you to use 2 equations to calculate the final answer.

Good luck with the revision - remember short, timed sessions are more productive than a marathon cramming session.

As my current Y11 students are now in the middle of their GCSEs, I'm starting to plan ahead to next September.

I'm offering group science sessions, both face to face and online.

Hi, I've been a bit quiet recently with the start of the new term, but I have an exciting news about some extra sessions that I am running to support Y11 students.

Most schools will be having their mock exams after the October half term. If your young person would like some extra support in GCSE Science in the run up to the exams, SJC Education are offering online AQA Paper 1 exam walkthrough sessions.

In these sessions experienced science teachers will walk through Paper 1 exam questions. We will offer advice about exam question technique as well as giving guided practice on exam questions from the paper 1 topics.

Starting at 7.30pm on Monday 20th October with the first Biology session. There are 6 sessions in total. Each session is 45 minutes and there are 2 sessions for each science allowing an in depth look at a paper 1 exam paper. Each session is £20. If 5 lessons are purchased the 6th lesson is free!

We are currently advertising our GCSE AQA Science group sessions. Group sessions are bookable on a half termly basis.

We have 3 different sessions available:

Our first two sessions are aimed at Y11 students. We have a face to face session, held in New Mills and an online session. Both sessions are on a Wednesday evening.

The third session is aimed at Y10 students and is an online session on a Tuesday evening.

Every group session includes:

A review of key areas from the specification. Q&A to identify knowledge gaps and misconceptions. Support with exam question technique. A short piece of homework will be set following each session which includes a recorded solutions video.

Gosh, I'm really pleased to share that bookings for Science tutoring from September are going really well.

We do still have some availability in our Y11 AQA Science face to face group sessions on a Wednesday at 6pm at New Mills Youth Centre. There is also some limited availability for 1:1 GCSE or A level but these slots are going quickly.

I've reserved a time slot for a further group online session. This will be tailored to suit demand so could be for Y10 Science or GCSE Chemistry. If you are interested in science tutoring for your young person, please get in contact to find out how we can support them.
