This afternoon the children took part in a creative tissue paper sticking activity where they explored the colours and changes associated with autumn. The children were provided with leaf templates and a selection of autumnal-coloured tissue paper, including red, orange, yellow and brown. They carefully tore, scrunched and glued the tissue paper onto their leaves, creating colourful autumnal designs. This activity supported the children’s fine motor development as they practised tearing, pinching, scrunching and placing small pieces of tissue paper. These movements helped to strengthen the muscles in their hands and fingers, supporting skills needed for future writing and self-care tasks. The activity also encouraged creativity and self-expression, allowing children to make choices about colours and how they wanted their leaves to look. It supported their concentration, patience and hand-eye coordination as they carefully applied glue and positioned the tissue paper. As the children discussed the colours, leaves and changes they see during autumn, they developed their language and communication skills and increased their understanding of the natural world. The activity provided opportunities to introduce vocabulary such as autumn, leaves, falling, red, orange, yellow, brown, crunchy and season. Overall, the activity provided a fun, sensory and hands-on learning experience while supporting children’s fine motor skills, creativity, concentration, communication and understanding of the natural world.
