At our next meeting, at 2pm on Friday October 9th, our friend Simon Partridge returns to present “An introduction to the history of Bread”
Bread has sustained humanity for thousands of years, evolving from simple unleavened mixtures to fermented loaves. Advances in grain cultivation and milling enabled large-scale, consistent production, culminating in industrial processed loaves of today. Beyond nutrition, bread has shaped economies, politics, and culture, from the Corn Laws to today’s artisan baking revival. Simon is a passionate home baker and this promises to be a most interesting afternoon
At our last meeting on Friday September 11th Judith Keogh, Director of the Wherry Yacht Charter Charitable Trust, gave a fascinating talk on the 5 wherries in their fleet and shared intriguing facts about the people behind the wherries. From Norfolk mustard dynasties to London department store owners she told us about their different lives, all connected by these wonderful historic Norfolk boats.
