☺️ Some stats about my little tuition business:

✏️ I currently have 18 students that I see on a 1:1 basis each week.
✏️ Most of my students have an hour’s tuition with me each week, but others have 45-minutes and I see one of my students for 7 hours a week.
✏️ I tutor for 21 hours and 45 minutes per week.
✏️ On top of my contact hours I do my session planning, buying resources, invoicing, answering emails and enquiries, general business admin and my own tax returns😅

Spelling practise:
- using my poppit

Grammar:
- Conjunction coordinates
- Nouns/adjectives 4-in-a-row

⚽️🎲This Norwich City Orchard Toys game has been making a few appearances lately…it makes spelling assessments more interesting and we’ve played it while brain-storming verbs and adjectives! 🥅⚽️

💫 A couple of my students have really been enjoying the game ‘Phonics Boom’!💥

It’s a simple but very effective concept that can be used for any words or sounds - take it in turns to put down a word card and, whenever a Boom! card is put down, the other player has to pick up all of the cards in the pile. The first player to get rid of all of their cards is the winner!

👽We added our own /ure/ words (real and alien words) and my student loved drawing the aliens to go with her alien words!

Editing and improving a piece of writing can be a little dull! So, why not make it into a game? 🎲

This game can also be adapted depending on the age and ability of my pupil. This particular version is for a Year 3 student👌

📝Handwriting and letter formation is something I get asked about by lots of parents.

I use different methods to support handwriting, which could be as simple as adding a grip to a student’s pencil. Other students have some focused handwriting/letter formation practise with me in their weekly tuition sessions, in which we might use:

✅ playdoh
✅ the lined side of my whiteboard
✅ my LCD tablet
✅ a handwriting scheme (for example; Write from the Start, which was created by an occupational therapist and a teacher)
✅ activities and games to strengthen hand muscles 💪 and improve fine motor skills ✏️
(such as pick-up sticks, paper clip challenges, cutting or moulding shapes out of playdoh)

📔Last week a lovely new 7 year old student had a trial tuition session with me.

✏️She’s started properly this week, having 3x English and Maths sessions per week and 1x Science session (as she’s currently being home educated).

She has settled into our sessions, and being educated at home, so quickly 💫 …and it’s lovely to be able to teach some Science again!

🪴We began our topic on Plants today by planting seeds, which will be kept in different conditions; one is our ‘control’ and will be getting light and water, another is being kept in a dark cupboard but will be getting watered and the last one will be getting light but no water. 🌱

🤔As my pupils will know, I love using rhymes, acronyms or pneumonics to help them remember things in our English sessions.

✅When teaching paragraphing, I like to use TiPToP to help my pupils remember to start a new paragraph when there is a change in:
