I often find parents contact me half way through the year, their child has been with one of the big tuition companies or they’ve done online tuition and it just isn’t working. Within a couple of weeks the child is smiling after their session with us, growing in confidence and slowly they begin to make progress - that’s because we adapt to suit your child. The only thing we follow a set path for is 11+ - however we still adapt to suit individual needs and our small groups allow us to get to know each child, to help them with their individual needs and ensure they aren’t just achieving but feeling confident too.

We have a handful of curriculum and 11+ spaces left for September, get in touch before we are full. I’d hate you to get in touch half way through the year and find we just don’t have any space left - join us now and watch your child thrive.

We are almost full in our year 5 11+ sessions for September. If you are looking for an experience tutor, who genuinely cares about your child and will be honest about how they’re progressing on their 11+ journey, then get in touch.

These spaces will go quickly, we only have space in pensby groups because demand has been so big that I have opened up one new group. Group sessions start at £20 per session (prices do vary according to the session length and tutor delivering the sessions)

If you are looking for a tutor who will help your child to achieve their true potential then get in touch.

Children are amazing, they have so much potential but sometimes they just need someone to help unlock that potential. At Holly Booth Tutoring we are passionate about unlocking that potential and allowing your child to achieve. We approach learning in a variety of ways to ensure each individual is learning in a way that suits their needs.

If you’ve got a child who is struggling to learn, who finds school difficult or just won’t let you help them at home, please let us share the load and help them.

Each child has a different skill set and we will use that to help them realise that they can achieve anything they want, sometimes just a few little changes can make a huge difference.

When people say this or ‘why are there more of these conditions these days?’ respond with this. How many more planets are now being discovered that were also always there? Once we are given the ability to find and identify something, we suddenly see it everywhere; that doesn’t mean it wasn’t there before. Every time there’s a new discovery lots of pieces to puzzles click into place, neurodivergence is exactly the same.

A day in the life of a SEN mum!! Paperwork, paperwork and more paperwork. I hate to imagine how hard it is to get support if you don’t understand any of this! When you have a child with SEN, there’s a good chance a parent also has SEN - one of Evan’s diagnoses is dyslexia - imagine how hard this paperwork would be if I was also dyslexic!

It feels so wrong that we have to fight so hard for our children. This paperwork is every 2 years so we can have some additional funding for Evan. I say this because some people feel bad claiming DLA for their child. Just think how much you spend, whether it’s buying adapted clothing (bamboo, seam-free socks is one of our regular purchases - which have to be replaced when they ‘don’t feel right!’) Evan struggles to ride a bike so he wants a specialised one he can ride (this comes in at £1600). The trips out that result in coming home because it was too overwhelming, only for him to decide he regrets it and wants to go back! Adapted cutlery, adapted pens, a plethora of adaptive clothing. The hours of paperwork, the many hospital appointments (fuel to get there, parking fees once there) and the many, many hours of lost sleep. Don’t feel bad for claiming DLA - it makes all of these things a little more manageable, it means we can give our children a snap shot into a more ‘normal’ life.

Every child who has additional needs should receive additional funding, you’d be shocked at how many parents reduce their working hours because they can’t get appropriate child care or because they spend so much time doing paperwork, or attending hospital appointments.

Some people suggest that parents want their child labelling just so they can claim this money. Trust me, any parent who rides this rollercoaster isn’t doing it just for the money!! Sadly, I have come across parents who do this but I can assure people, there are many of us who would give up every penny if it meant our child didn’t need these adaptations. I wouldn’t change Evan for the world, he is an incredible boy who has an amazing and unique set of skills - but I would make these processes easier and more accessible if I could.

Last Saturday we had a small number of children who took a mock test with us, they approached the exam so well and performed so well.

Things I’m particularly proud of:
🌟 Every child left feeling like they’d benefitted from the mock.
🌟 81% of our children passed.
🌟 There was no significant difference between results in paper 1 and paper 2 - showing that our process is working in terms of helping children to improve their exam stamina.

Our last mock is on 22nd August, it is a very popular one but I can fit a few more in if booked by 1st August. I can’t wait to see the results from that mock.

As another academic year comes to an end, I feel so grateful for this wonderful community I have created. Thank you for trusting us with your children for another year, we all feel so lucky to get to tutor such wonderful children. Thank you for the many gifts and cards, they are all very much appreciated.

Over the years, I have often been told that children were “trying to control me”, “manipulating situations” or “choosing” to behave in a certain way. I could never accept that explanation, and at times I found myself feeling isolated because I challenged that way of thinking.

When a child is showing defiance, appearing controlling, or making choices that seem difficult to understand, I ask that we pause and look deeper. Instead of asking, “What is wrong with this child?” we need to ask, “What has happened that has led them to respond this way?” It is our responsibility to seek understanding, to uncover the reasons behind the behaviour, and to provide the support that child needs.

Behaviour is communication. Behind every action is a need, an emotion, or a message that a child may not yet have the skills to express. The way we respond can shape a child’s experience — our reactions have the power to either build them up or make their challenges feel even harder.

Please take the time to truly understand these children. Be the person who advocates for the child who cannot always explain their feelings in a way that others recognise or expect. Be the person who looks beyond the behaviour and sees the child.

Sometimes, the right support, patience, and understanding can be the difference between a child feeling like they are sinking or finally learning how to swim.
