My name is Mrs Tiley and I am a part-time Primary school teacher, currently teaching a mixed age class of 28 amazing Year 3 and 4 children! I have been teaching for 13 years from Year 1 through to Year 6 but chose to go part time after the birth of my second child 8 years ago. As my eldest (Year 5) enters the Kent test process I have decided this is the perfect time to start my tutoring venture an

d help her and others gain the best chance possible of passing the test. I started this journey on the 8th September 2022 when I helped invigilate the Kent test 22. Seeing the test take place first hand made me appreciate how important familiarisation of the test really is. In our busy households finding time for this on a regular basis is very difficult. If you think a Grammar school is where your child is best suited and would like to give them the tools they need to approach the Kent Test with confidence then I would love to be a part of that journey, it's my job! I would like to offer small group online sessions lasting approximately 45 minutes. Initially these will be on Thursdays 4:45 - 5:30pm. From experience shorter sessions work well in keeping children focused and ensuring enjoyment and morale are kept high. We want these sessions to be a positive experience, creating an environment everyone can thrive in! The Kent test consists of a verbal, non verbal reasoning, Maths and English test usually taken in the morning followed by a piece of independent writing with a title in the afternoon that is only used if appeal is necessary. My sessions will be kept simple and follow the structure of the tests, we will study one type of test in each session. I intend to start with a teacher led approach supporting the children through the tests and finding the best strategies. This will move to less input from myself and more independent work which we can then analyse and discuss as a group. As we get closer to the Kent test I will add the dreaded time element and help the children find techniques to deal with this part of the test. Finally, we will look at the digitalised answer sheets that are provided on the day. These are not straightforward and need some careful consideration. What you need! You will need to purchase a set of books for your child to work through during the sessions; Bond 11+: English, Maths, Non-Verbal Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning: 10 Minute Tests: 10-11 years Bundle. These books will form the core basis for our familiarisation process. These are my first sessions and I would like to start with a price of £12 per session, paid for in advance in 6 week slots (£72). This will allow us to periodically check how your child is doing and decide whether continuing with the programme is best for your child. I really hope I can make a difference and smash this Kent Test!

All the children really understood the concept of the hole punch test this week, a big well done! 👏 I wonder if the parents would be able to solve these? It’s not too late to familiarise your child with kent test style questions ahead of the big day. I have 3 spaces left on my new Friday group 5:30-6:15 ❤️

HUGE congratulations to my very first 3 students who started out with me over a year ago. They have all secured a place at Simon Langton Grammar School and congratulations to my own daughter who was my guinea pig all year 😂 She is excited to be going to Chatham and Clarendon Grammar School ❤️

Only 18 school weeks until the big day! Kick starting this term with data handling tonight. Does your child recall the terms ‘mode’ ‘mean’ ‘range’ ‘median’? Give them the best chance possible by making sure they are regularly made familiar with maths terms they may encounter! I still have spaces online Thursdays 5-5:45 first session free!

Calling all Year 5s (please share 🙏)

We will kick off 2024 with non verbal reasoning this Thursday. I ❤️ it and so do the children when they get how it works! There are so many different elements to this section which your child could be exposed to, none of which are taught in school, so it will be a big focus for this term 💪
