Healthy screen habits 📱

Screens are part of everyday life, but finding the right balance is key to supporting children’s health development.

Current guidance recommends:
👶 Children under 2- avoid screen time wherever possible
👦👧 Children ages 2-5 years- limit screen time to no more than 1 hour a day, and less is even better!

Part 2🌈 Goldfinch is a place where everyone is welcomed, valued, and loved every single day they walk through the door.
Today, we are especially celebrating our wonderful families and the important role they play in our nursery community. It’s a chance to recognise the love, care, and support that surrounds our children and helps them thrive. 💛🌈

Part 1 🌈 We’ve been celebrating Pride in our nursery by focusing on love, inclusion and kindness. The children have enjoyed a day full of colourful activities, from creative art and music to storytelling and play that celebrates everyone being unique. It’s been a joyful reminder that our differences make our community stronger, and that love in all its forms is something to be shared and celebrated. 🌈

Our toddlers have had another fantastic week full of rich learning experiences! 🌻🥕

This week, the children explored how flowers and vegetables grow, extending their learning by planting sunflowers and even making their own soap! The children showed great curiosity and enthusiasm as they investigated the world around them through hands-on activities.

We have also been focusing on developing fine motor skills in preparation for their transition into pre-school over the coming months. The children have enjoyed lots of opportunities for cutting, practising safe knife skills, and strengthening their hand control through a variety of engaging activities. ✂️🔪

It has been wonderful to see their confidence, independence, and creativity continue to grow each day! 🌱✨

Today our preschool children enjoyed a lovely visit to the duck pond 🦆 The children did a fantastic job following our safety rules while out in the community, listening carefully and staying together as we walked to the pond. We were very proud of how sensible and responsible they were! This week they have been learning all about the life cycle of ducks and exploring the different types of ducks. The children were so excited to take their learning outdoors and see real ducks in their natural environment.🤩. What a wonderful way to bring our learning to life 🦆💛

Yesterday was full of curiosity and discovery as the children explored the fascinating life cycle of a frog! 🐸
They had the amazing opportunity to observe real tadpoles up close, sparking lots of questions and excitement. The children carefully watched how the tadpoles moved, talked about what they might grow into, and began to understand the stages from tiny eggs to fully grown frogs.
Hands-on experiences like this bring learning to life and help build a deeper connection with the natural world. We can’t wait to see how our little learners continue to grow their knowledge! 🌿✨

As a nursery we are supporting one of our families to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities. This incredible charity helped provide support, comfort and a place to stay during a very difficult time.

Any donation matters, no matter the size. If you’re able to contribute, we’d be hugely grateful.

Today at Goldfinch, our toddlers brought the story of The Three Little Pigs to life through hands-on, practical play. 🐷 We love creating real experiences that children can connect to, helping them build their understanding through what they see and do. 🐺Using a hair dryer as the "big bad wolf", the children explored what might happen as they tested the strength of different "houses" sparking excitement and curiosity. 📕This activity supported early literacy and imaginative play while also encouraging problem solving and understanding consequences. The children took the lead by sharing their ideas, planning what might happen next, making choices throughout their play. 📣Afterwards, we revisited the story together, and it was wonderful to see how confidently they could recall and retell what had happened.
