British Society of Dowsers

British Society of Dowsers Dowsing is a journey of exploration; discover deeper aspects about yourself and Nature. It is so much more than searching for water.

Office Open Tues-Fri 10am-2.30pm. The British Society of Dowsers is a UK charity that aims to support the practice of dowsing through educational courses, talks and meetings and the promotion of the activities of the lively dowsing groups throughout the UK. The society has been in existence since 1933, when it focussed much on water divining and searching for oil, minerals, or even lost people. But over time dowsing interests have extended to more diverse matters such as health and well-being, archaeology and more spiritual interests. This has reflected the increasingly diverse backgrounds of its membership. The society publishes a regular magazine journal, "Dowsing Today" that contains fascinating articles from members. There is an annual conference in the autumn and a Symposium in the Spring, to encourage the meeting of like-minded individuals. Training courses are offered to encourage more people to take up the practice and then to develop their skills further. A register of professional dowsers is also available, who will offer their dowsing services to the public. Although we are a UK based, we have always had members from all over the World, who have added to our diverse mix of members. We hope you will join us to develop your own intuitive abilities in a friendly and supportive way. To find out more, visit our website at:

Zoom Talk with Alanna Moore
Thursday 17th September 2026 -7.30pm (London, UK/BST)

Alanna Moore's Bio
A long time dowser and geomancer, Alanna is from Sydney Australia, where she helped to found the New South Wales Dowsing Society in 1984. She specialises in dowsing environmental energies and the spirits of nature in particular. She has taught thousands of students and made hundreds of energising installations called Power Towers, mainly across Australasia.

She has also spent years living in Ireland and England, lands of her ancestors. There she learned the wisdom of the ancient Celts, folklore and traditions of the Otherworlds, and found them to be easily accessible. Author of 12 books that are mostly on dowsing related subjects, Alanna is relocating back to Australia permanently in October 2026. Her website is www.geomantica.com

Details of Alanna's talk

Launch of Divining the Otherworlds
The result of a lifelong fascination and experience of the Other, Alanna has compiled reports from across her dowsing career, including the observations of other percipients, to bring us a wide spectrum view of the usually invisible universe that co-exists around us.

The back cover describes it thus:
Ancient traditions of a supernatural spirit world are similar globally, especially in their most archaic forms. They talk of the Other, the Dreaming, etc. It’s an other-dimensional, parallel universe that’s all around us, but usually invisible. Folklore warns us to navigate this Fairyland with care and respect.

But how to know it? In our innate sensory potential, we can perceive it directly, if we find a means to lift the veil between the worlds. The ancient art of divining is one such means. You don’t need any particular belief system to sense or work with the Other, ideally just an open and inquisitive mind, the capacity for intense focus, calm and fearlessness, and a kind heart.

When the world of spirit collides uncomfortably with ours and we need to find ways to investigate - this book provides just the thing. Australian author and diviner Alanna Moore has over forty years experience of dealing with Other dimensional problems impacting people’s homes and the places they frequent. She’s well qualified to present this overview of everyday spirit manifestations, ways to deal with unwanted ones, means of their perception and how to restore harmony to haunted homes.

Praise for this book:
"A fascinating exploration of spirit ecologies across cultures."
Melanie Lorien, International House Healing Network, August 2026.

Introduction to Dowsing for Health
With Mandy Bennett — Saturday 3rd October 2026

Intermediate Level | One-Day Practical Workshop + Online Follow-Up

Join Mandy Bennett for a practical introduction to using dowsing as a tool for exploring health and well-being.

During this one-day workshop, we’ll explore a variety of dowsing techniques and learn how they can be used to look at different aspects of our overall well-being.

You'll explore four key areas:

Mental — thoughts, focus and mental well-being
Physical — the body and physical well-being
Emotional — feelings, balance and emotional well-being
Energetic — energy, balance and subtle influences

The day will be practical and interactive, giving you the opportunity to practise different techniques in a supportive environment.

The workshop will be followed by an online follow-up session, providing an opportunity to revisit techniques, share experiences, ask questions and build confidence in your dowsing practice.

There will be dowsing products rods and pendulums to purchase if you wish, so please bring cash for these.

In addition to this day, there will be a follow up 1-hour zoom meeting we aim for this to take place one week after the course (Mandy will arrange the date with you on the day of the course).

The course tutor is Mandy Bennett who has been a Professional Dowser for more than 25 years and has kindly agreed to teach this course on behalf of the BSD, by popular demand.

Day of Archaeological Dowsing at Wandlebury Iron Age Hill Fort, Cambs - Saturday 3rd October 2026

Limited to 30 people so don't miss out!

Working on and around the demolished manor house built in 1735, we will dowse the layout of the ground floor rooms and basement, and try to dowse what each room was used for.

We can then search out service pipes leading from and to the house. There are tunnels to be traced and see if you can find the site of the ice house.

Wandlebury is the site of many myths and legends, possible ley(s), and energy lines. Ancient Greek gods Gog and Magog are also in the mix. And there will be a fun 20- point questionnaire.

BSD or Cambridge PP&F Members £30
Non Members £35

All payments in advance please.
Tea and coffee available but bring your own food.

Dear Fellow Dowsers,
BSD Conference 2026
Only A Few Days Left To Book

This is a gentle reminder that the Tickets for this year's BSD Conference must close this Thursday 3rd September at Midnight (London, UK/BST) so only a few days left to take advantage of the opportunity to join us for what promises to be an inspiring and enjoyable weekend.

This is because all catering requirements have to be with the venue by the 4th September, i.e. two weeks before the event so we are unable to take any bookings after that. *( If you have booked and have not responded to my emails then please do as a matter of urgency)

Our Conference will be held on 19th & 20th September at the Fire Service College, Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire, a venue that many of our members already know and enjoy.

Whether you're an experienced dowser, just beginning your journey, or simply curious to discover more, you'll receive a warm welcome. The Conference is open to members and non-members alike, making it the perfect opportunity to learn, explore and share ideas with others who have a passion for dowsing.

This year's programme features an exciting range of speakers and workshops, with full details, biographies and presentation topics available on our website: https://britishdowsers.org/Events/

Now that our Spring Symposium has moved online, allowing friends from around the world to take part, our annual Conference has become even more special. It gives us the chance to meet face to face, catch up with old friends, make new ones and enjoy the conversations that are such an important part of being together. As always, we learn just as much from one another as we do from our speakers and workshop leaders.

Accommodation can also be booked through the BSD Shop: https://britishdowsers.org/product-category/conference/ Please note that there are revised room rates, together with important information regarding accommodation bookings, dietary requirements and booking deadlines, all of which can be found on the Conference booking page.

We hope you'll join us for a memorable weekend of learning, friendship, discovery and dowsing.
We look forward to welcoming you there.

With best wishes,
The British Society of Dowsers

This workshop is a full afternoon trip to Batsford Arboretum, so you won't be able to attend any other workshops that afternoon.
We'll do our best to arrange lift shares for everyone and would ask everyone to offer to drive, where possible to facilitate this. As the visit involves walking around the arboretum, a good level of stamina is required, there will not be an opportunity to rest. Please also come prepared for the weather by bringing suitable outdoor clothing, as conditions may be wet or changeable.

Shaun Holbrow: The Rollrights
This is also a full afternoon workshop, so it isn't possible to book another workshop that afternoon.
Transport will be provided by coach, which will drop the group off and return later to collect everyone. Please note that there is no parking available at the site, so travelling by coach is essential, but it will not be staying at the site.
This workshop requires a good level of stamina, in uneven terrain and we recommend bringing appropriate outdoor clothing in case of inclement weather.
Please note that Shaun has asked for this workshop to be limited to experienced dowsers, as there won't be enough time during the session to teach the basics of dowsing.

Zoom Talk with Fay Semple

Thursday 20th August 2026

7.30pm (London, UK/BST)

Fay Semple is a seer, healer, and geomancer who has worked with the living energies of the Earth for most of her life. Born in England and raised in Ireland, she has been able to see conscious energy in trees, stones, and landscapes since childhood. After returning to England she trained and worked as a full-time geomancer and dowser. She is a former tutor for the British Society of Dowsers and received the BSD Award for Services to Dowsing in recognition of her research and teaching.

Fay founded an online platform offering courses that help people restore harmony in their homes and deepen their relationship with the land. Her forthcoming Hay House book, The Living Language of the Land, shares the practical system she has developed over many years, combining ancient geomantic wisdom with modern scientific insights.

She lives in the English countryside, where she continues to work with clients and explore the Earth’s wisdom.

Details of Fay’s talk:

The Coherent Model: How Sacred-Site Fields Form – A Science-First Exploration
In this science-first presentation, Fay Semple shares a coherent working model of how sacred-site energy fields form. Drawing on geophysics, geometry, and decades of direct observation, she explores the interplay of underground water, piezoelectric and paramagnetic geology, telluric currents, sacred structure boundary conditions, standing waves, and organised sound.
The model remains a working hypothesis, grounded in established physics yet open to verification, and offers a clear framework for understanding why certain places feel so powerful and how they may have supported human wellbeing, ecological vitality, and expanded awareness.

Fay's talk is free for Members of the BSD but Non-Members will be charged £5.00.

BSD Annual Conference announce our Sunday workshop host: Amy Murphy Watts

Workshop: Listening to the Body Through Essences and Dowsing Exploring subtle energy, trapped emotions and energetic balance.

Sunday 20th September, p.m.

This workshop explores how dowsing can be used alongside flower essences and energy awareness to listen more deeply to the body and its subtle responses. We will look at how emotional patterns, stress and energetic imbalances may become held within the body, and ways dowsing can help identify and support release and rebalancing. The workshop will also include working intuitively with flower essences, energy techniques and the body’s own wisdom.

Biography: Amy Murphy-Watts Dowsing Practitioner, Energy & Wellbeing Specialist, Founder of Nature’s Wish and Dowsing for Vitality For over 20 years, Amy Murphy-Watts has worked in the field of dowsing, energetic wellbeing, and holistic support. Her practice combines energy dowsing, health dowsing, house and workplace clearing, flower essences, and intuitive wellbeing work to help clients better understand the deeper influences affecting emotional, physical, and energetic health. Amy supports clients experiencing stress, burnout, emotional overwhelm, low vitality, recurring patterns, and environmental influences within homes or workplaces. Her approach is gentle, investigative, and holistic — exploring how beliefs, emotions, stress patterns, environment, and energetic imbalances may be affecting overall wellbeing. She trained with leading practitioners Adrian Incledon-Webber, Dawn Kirkham, and Sean Ferris in House Healing and Health Dowsing, later developing her own integrated approach combining dowsing, energy work, and nature-based wellbeing support. Alongside her client work, Amy is the founder of Nature’s Wish, a wellbeing brand inspired by the healing intelligence of nature. For over two decades she has created flower essences, herbal teas, botanical oils, and energy sprays designed to support emotional balance, calm, restoration, and energetic wellbeing. Her products are used by private clients, therapists, yoga teachers, and wellbeing practitioners, and have also been incorporated into luxury wellness environments including Goodwood Health & Wellbeing. She is also exporting to Japan. Alongside her private client work, Amy is also an experienced speaker, sharing her knowledge on stress, wellbeing, energy awareness, flower essences, and the healing power of nature. She has spoken within wellness and luxury wellbeing environments, including Goodwood Health & Wellbeing, where she is a speaker on the Longevity Programme talking about reducing stress and supporting balance through nature, energy work, and holistic wellbeing practices. She has also spoken at the British Society of Dowsers, The British Flower Vibrational Essence Association, The Mindful Living Show, Earth Energies and others.
