HEATWAVE π‘οΈ | Oakchurch to close ice cream shack amid Extreme Heat Warning.
Oakchurch has announced the temporary closure of its popular Scoop Ice Cream Shack due to concerns over staff and customer safety during an extreme heat warning affecting Herefordshire this week.
In a statement released to customers, the family-run retailer said the ice cream shack will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday, citing forecast temperatures that it believes would make operating the outdoor facility unsafe.
βWe understand that this may be disappointing for those looking to cool off with an Oakchurch ice cream,β the statement said. βHowever, the wellbeing of Oakchurch staff and customers is our priority and we do not feel that we can operate the shack safely in the temperatures predicted on those two days.β
The decision comes as high temperatures are expected across the county, prompting businesses and residents to take precautions against the heat.
Despite the closure of the ice cream shack, Oakchurch reassured customers that its ice cream products will still be available to purchase from the main shop. Visitors can buy take-home tubs and a selection of cones to create frozen treats at home.
The company ended its announcement by wishing customers βa safe and sunny week.β
The temporary closure highlights the challenges businesses face during periods of extreme weather, with increasing emphasis being placed on protecting staff and customers during heat-related events.
